I srsly dk why does b85 exist if h81 is lowest and h87 h97 fill the rest of the lower end gap

And does b85 oc well?

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

B is for business.  The idea is those boards offer a step up in terms of features compared to a simple home PC that might only have one hard drive, and maybe a printer attached.  They offer more numbers of things thought necessary for enterprise type applications - more USB, SATA ports, RAM slots, etc.

But if those specific added items are not things you might need then there is no real advantage to paying more for B85.

Plenty of H81s will overclock fine, but you would be best served by narrowing your list to a few specific boards that have the features you want, then checking out reviews of each of them.

B85 itself is a business oriented chipset. But it offers a greater amount of USB3.0, SATA6G and PCIe3.0 support over the H81chipset. So it's still a valid consumer chipset.

It's quite popular with G3258 users due to the price range and a lot of manufacturers offer overclocking support (usually with a 1.2v limit).

The biggest drawback of h81 is it supports pcie 2.0 which is why i wouldn't recommend that board. Other than that having less sata , usb ports  ect ...doesn't seem to be much of an issue.

Pcie 2.0?

Not even considering h81 chipset lol

B85 is in the lower end of the 8-series business-grade lineup, the higher-end being Q87. Motherboards tend to be more stable and have more features designed for businesses.

All Haswell chipsets had PCIe 2.0. The only PCIe 3.0 came from the CPU. The motherboards had to add support for PCIe lanes from the CPU, which they have always done. There are H81 boards with PCIe 3.0. I'd say the biggest drawback is the lack of front USB3.
