GPU for 1440p

Justhavocman

Hello , i'm finally in the market for a new GPU , my trusty 670 gave up after 3+ years of service ( RIP) . I will be buying from https://www.skroutz.gr/ ,  my dilemma is between 390, 390x , 970 , 980( i can probably stretch my budget to get a cheap 980 like the windforce or a zotac one). The cheapest solution will be the most welcome one ofcourse :P

At 1440p the 390X would be your best bet right now.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

1440p I would definitely say 390X, Fury(Non X), 980Ti.

It's how much you want to spend.

Which Games do you even play? :) but I would go for the 970 or the 390 which are more then enough for another 3+ years.

I have the 970 and I love it good I didn't buy the 980! Almost 200$ for 10+ fps? No thanks xD

980, 980ti r9 295x2

1x 980ti will easily meet your needs

Did you even read the post... his budget is 980 max.

Get the 390X.

I play at 1440p on my Gsync Panel and its enough in most Games over 60fps only under is the Witcher 3 for me. But when I lower some settings I get easily to 55fps. And I can't even see any difference. By the way PS4 looks like everything is on the Lowest and it still looks decent ;)

R9 390X or R9 Fury would be the best cards you could get...

As a rule of thumb (although, there ARE exceptions) - AMD does better at higher resolutions then Nvidia...

So once you go above 1080p. AMD cards generally "lose" less FPS then Nvidia does, compared to 1080p

at 1440p? dont think so buddy.

This, the 770 and 970 are perfect for 1080p nothing more unless you play at below optimal settings

980, 980ti r9 295x2

way out of budget

1440p I would definitely say 390X, Fury(Non X), 980Ti.

It's how much you want to spend.

around 500€ , can stretch to 550ish to get a 980 if needed.

Which Games do you even play? :) but I would go for the 970 or the 390 which are more then enough for another 3+ years.

I have the 970 and I love it good I didn't buy the 980! Almost 200$ for 10+ fps? No thanks xD

Generaly MMOs , skyrim , mobas , some MGS5 , and newer AAA games but im no max-out freak , i can manage playing with no AA .

So 390x or 390? Is the extra cost worth the performance?

the 970 is a lot better than a 770, the 770 only just plays ultra settings, the 970 blows 1080p away, but its still not good enough for most games at 1440p.

GTX 980, the 390x is just a rebrand/rebadge, so why buy it? Also the GTX 970 / 980 are really good, anyways if you're confused, look at recent reviews from JayzTwoCents, LinusTechTips etc, where they compare graphic cards (May even be in a 980ti review). Anyways in this one, he actually does them.

390x = 290x.

id personally get a 980, its better in most games, uses less power and you can sli down the road.

I would probably not get the 980 since the performance gain is minimal for a huge price increase.

Right now probably the 390 or 290 if you get it cheap for price/performance.

Dont expect to max every game out at ultra 60fps though, probably gotta turn down msaa and tesselation.

the 390x isnt worth it over the 390 either, 5-10% more performance for 30% more money.

390X is arguably the cheap solution if you can't find a 290X.

so it's either 290x or 390? price wise they are both on the same bracket. so i just pay an extra 100 for 4GB more of vram on the 390x?

This, the 770 and 970 are perfect for 1080p nothing more unless you play at below optimal settings

So basically you think that optimal === highest?

I've been playing at 1440 with a 780 since it came out and i've not had any issues with frame rate. If a game is a bit laggy, turn down the AA a bit and it's fine. Usually there's not much difference with some settings, but they have a large impact on frame rate, so they can be turned off with not much/no visual fidelity lost.

Refresh* How hard is it to understand? the 290X was behind a 970 at 1080p but just under 980 at 1440p and 4K but the 390X is better than a 970 at 1080p and neck and neck but mainly better than a 980 at 1440p and 4K. 390X and 390 is not even close to a rebadge.

If that's the case just get a 390, more Vram and slightly better power consumption and temps
