5820K vs 6700K

Going to build a new pc, but wondring which Cpu and mobo to go with?

Msi x99 sli plus and 5820k

or

Asus hero 8 z170 and 6700k

they cost the same.

The pc is going to be used for gaming and daily use (browsing, watching vids/films,)

Fr gaming and everyday use, the 6700k is better... For heavy video editing, the 5820k would be better.

5820K

To me Skylake and x99 price difference is too little and it makes the skylake "not worth it" over x99

If youre fine with spending the cash then a 5820 is a better cpu, but both of those are overkill for gaming. a 4690/6600 would give the same performance

I'd go for 5820k just for the extra 2 cores.

But you don't need either of those two builds if you are going to using it only for gaming.

You'd be good with 4th Generation Haswell chips like i5 4690K.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

5820k is more suited for programs that munch on cores more so than speed, so unless you try your hand at making videos or something then the 6700k will be faster and overclock better (from what we've seen this far)

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

I would say go with Z97 and a 4690K if you're just gaming/browsing, to be honest.

You're getting one of these cpus just for gaming watching movies and browsing? Both of these are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overkill. But I'd go with the 5820k.

I highly suggest you get neither and instead get a 4690k or 4790k.

5820k for sure. For the same price, the 5820k is miles ahead of the 6700k in terms of performance in video editing, and most moderate-heavily multithreaded programs. Although you have the same gaming performance, the greater core count might come in handy in the future, and the extra pci lanes are great for 2 way sli setups and a pci ex4 ssd running all at once.

Hahahahaha at people who picked 6700k.

The 5820k is a better CPU. No doubt about it. And it costs the same as 6700k Skylake. 5820k wins hands down.

Holy crap, that's awesome. If only I hadn't spent all my money already xD

Then again, the cost of shipping it across country would not be cheap.

As we said if you are gaming get an i5, if you do any kind of content creation get the 5820K... Easy.

At 4.5Ghz on both (both OC'ed, and should be easy enough to reach on both) there is like 5% difference in IPC...

Else get what you want

Futureproof is a myth - plus its better to change twice as often - you get way more bang and have a spare pc you can resell or handmedown.

Well, i was also thinking that if sell the pc in like 2-3 years that i might get more money if it has been equipt with an 5280k over the 6700k. any thought on that?

Probably but whether the increased spend over an i5 is worth it for purely gaming is questionable. Also in 3+ years we will start seeing 2011V3 second hand server parts becoming available (Like the first gen 6 core Xeons that are going for dirt cheap right now.)

Ok to put in perspective.

i5-760 was £150 its now £25 ish

i7-920 was £200 its now £40

i7-950 was £250 its now £50

Xeon X5660 was £1200? is now £80

Spending more for a return in 3 years is a bit pointless.

OOk, well i am going to buy a i7, but i am not buying it basing it on that i am going to sell it in a few years. here in norway the 5820k is actually 15 bux cheaper than the 6700k.

for your use the 6700K will perform better, it has higher IPC and is faster when it comes to gaming and anything else that is 6 threads or less...the 5820K will pull ahead in rendering, trancoding and compression for example...gaming: 6700K has a nice advantage and will last longer.

Also, i think for your use case an i5-6600K would be a better pick if it allow you to put more money toward a stronger GPU or just nicer parts overall...
