Hello.

I was wondering if the Hyper 212 Evo Air cooler would be enough for my i7 4790k which I am planning to OC at least to 4.5GHz.

Or maybe I can go even higher than that? If so, please tell me.

I have a Fractal Design Define R5 case with good cable management, 1 intake fan at front, 1 exhaust fan at the back and using only 1 GPU card.

My mobo is Maximus Vii Hero, which has a good chipset for oc'ing from what I have read.

So will my temparatures be okay?

I don't think it will get you to 4.5 more like 4.2

Get a better CPU cooler if you are overclocking at such speed.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

should be fine, some people oc to 4.3 and their load is at 50C, but you will kinda be pushing it alittle, give it a try and monitor your temps

Unless you get a bit lucky with the silicon lottery I don't think you would get that since that cooler won't handle higher voltages well but we honestly won't really know until you try it but I would still recommend getting something better if you have the money.

THere are some better coolers for the same price. For a little more you could get some seriously good cooling.

for the same price? I doubt it

I see you have the exact same CPU and Air cooler.

How much did you overclock, what temps are you getting?

4.5GHz should be doable without a problem unless you get a really bad chip. I ran a very stable 24/7 4.6GHz (1.22v) and occasional 4.8GHz (1.32v) with my 212 evo without a problem for 6 months although I did upgrade to a NH-D14 (50$used) and get better temps.  I've heard the bequiet purerock will get slightly better temps at a lower noise and similar price level if its available

edit: if you have a hot GPU I would add another intake to get better case flow but as long as you aren't encoding video 24/7 you'll be good and should be able to stay under 80c while running a stress test like xtu for 8 hours +

For a little more you could get something like a thermalright true spirit for $50. For the money its pretty ridiculous.

All these are above the price as the 212 evo.. when I mean for the same price I mean THE SAME PRICE

But of course OP can go for something better if he pays for more

For 50 bucks i would recomend a thermalright Macho or a Cryorig H5 ultimate. Those are both excellent coolers and worth the money.

Personally i would get the thermalright macho, that thing is a monster of a cooler at a crazy decent price.

actually depending where you buy all of those coolers are about the same as the hyper 212 evo (30+-5 dollars) except for the raijintek, those are cheaper.

True spirit is a little cooler and quieter from what i've seen.

I didn't OC as you can see I am currently bottlenecked for Reasons.

212 evo is pretty cool at 30 idle and 50-60 load

I would recommend the pure rock cooler for OCing on the 4790k

or the NH-D15

The Macho trades blows with the NH-D14, it's crazy, i started noticing it when Pistol from tek syndicate used it on her build with an overclocked 5820k, it could even do passive without an overclock, which is pretty awesome
