Today my 770M Was reaching NINETY 6 DEGREEES In my alienware 17, it was at this moment i shut down and said holy shit, i touched the vent and it was as hot as the sun, the fans had not been working at all, the gpu fan stopped spinning up to Max rpm a couple of weeks after purchase, can someone help me with this? it's been happening for ages and i think that 96 degrees isn't healthy AT ALL.

considering the 770m isnt super high end, and the alienware 17 is by no means a thin and light, cooling should not be a problem... My friends alineware had problems, but none as serious as the fan not working...

 

OP, if you are up to it, open it up and make sure the fan is properly seated, and is still connected. Alienware laptops are generally pretty easy to open up...

check for bios updates, as they are usually what change the fan profiles.

 

You cant do that yourself on laptops/ very rarely (try hwinfo, as my friend said that it lets you change the fan speed on alienwares)

 NINETY 6 DEGREEES eh, as oppose to ninety-six or ninetysix, anyhoo, this is the issue with gaming laptops, over time the cooling solution just gets inefficient due to dust. It is a design flaw,IMO, with the fan. 

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I did update the bios, that made no difference

Won´t opening the laptop void your warranty? I mean, the heatsink fan is not a user friendly easy acces thing as a memory module. Just a tought
