Is a soundcard worth it for me?

Jultomten55

Hello!

I am thinking about getting a soundcard.(creative sound blaster Z or Asus Xonar Phoebus) I am currently using a Hyperx cloud headset and a 2.1 speaker system.

I am planning to but a better pair of headphones or a better speaker system later.(Thankful for tips) I was thinking of this upgrade as "future proofing"

Is it worth it?

Save your money and get the speakers and headphones, soundcard doesnt really give u any performance gain over on board audio.

Soundcard isn't really needed unless you're an enthusiast or have a job where you need to mess around with sound files etc.

You can if you want obviously, but most people don't.

No.

If anything, get a dac/amp, but dont do that unless you feel you need to. (Insuficient volume, bad quality/static)

If you're really wanting an audio upgrade, an external DAC and AMP is the way to go. Soundcards don't offer much, if any improvement over modern motherboard's onboard audio, other than making it louder.

The only difference I can tell is when playing games. The dedicated soundcard does a better job of directional audio.

Onboard audio should be good for most applications. I just prefer a dedicated soundcard for games.

other than making it louder.

Barring faulty audio hardware, an external dac amp will do the same thing (e.g. Make it louder.)

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)
