@KarateHottie93 that is not completely correct. WD VelociRaptor does not have capacities over 1TB so I would compare the speeds of 1TB versions of both drives. WD Black works with about 150MB/s while WD VelociRaptor works with about 200MB/s. If you go to the 

6TB version of WD Black it even surpasses WD VelociRaptor and reaches about 218MB/s. For reference, check both drives' spec sheets:

2tb + wise there isnt alot of choice ,if you want the best of the best wd wise its a wd black (avoid the 3tb version) or a wd re if you are willing to spend to extra money for it.

 

If it is mostly for video/pictures though you could get away with a wd blue,apparently they now have models going up to 6tb now also.  (more silent , although a 5400rpm drive and "only" 3 years warranty compared to the 5 years you get with a black or a re)

I've had good luck with Blue and Green from WD. Black is what I try to get and what I prefer but sometimes it just isn't feasible to spend so much more on a drive. The only problem I had with the Green was it was quite slow. I wouldn't go Green again just because of the speed but I've had 4+ Green WD drives and they were all reliable, at least.

 

+1 for HGST though they've been doing good work.

I just did a little unscientific test. I just got a WD blue drive for media storage. I installed Witcher 3, Facry 4, and Wolfenstein load times between that and my 6 month old Black drive that I use with steam games. Loading was less then a second difference and this is with my using my smart phone as a timer. Not saying Blue is the way to go or anything just a little observation on my end

Not exactly the best source, as I recall they've gotten a ton of shit for using consumer grade drives in enterprise scenarios. There is a very good reason why enterprise drives exist, and why they cost more.

It depends on what your priorities are. Some drives perform better while others are quieter. 

I used WD Reds due to how quiet they are (at least for a hdd).
