AMD vs Intel

Go to solution Solved by DyGr00339,

Thanks, so it is better for this usage scenario?

Yes, for workstation it is less prone to issues, last longer and more features, but AMD is horsepower for gameing, its why there are not many pre-made AMD pc`s

Hi,

I'm planning a build and have two possibilities. Both cost pretty much the same where I live. One's AMD and the other one's Intel. Here they are:

AMD:

CPU:  AMD A6-5400K 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard:  ASRock FM2A85X-ITX Mini ITX FM2 Motherboard  ($105.38 @ Newegg)
Storage:  Plextor M5S Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($94.99 @ Microcenter)
Case:  Lian-Li PC-Q03B (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case  ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive:  Asus DRW-24B3LT DVD/CD Writer
Total: $360.34
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Intel:

CPU:  Intel Core i3-3220T 2.8GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($109.99 @ Microcenter)
Storage:  Plextor M5S Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($94.99 @ Microcenter)
Case:  Lian-Li PC-V355B (Black) MicroATX Mini Tower Case  ($147.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply:  Corsair CX 430W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply  ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive:  Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $399.94
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

EDIT: I still have a Gigabyte Z68 here that I can use.

EDIT: It's gonna be used for office, internet and light multimedia. No gaming.

Thanks in advance.

intel, if you want AMD, I would recommend going with phenom, although it will be more expensive, it will outperform the i3
also, why the freaking expensive ass case, go with something like a NZXT Source 210, or a 200R, then you can get a HD7770

AMD for sure at that pricepoint

Ok, why's that?

AMD system. It depends on what you are using the system for though.

Sorry, forgot to say. It's gonna be used for office, internet and light multimedia. No gaming. OP updated.

I took the freaking expensive ass case because it's cheaper here actually, it's gonna sit ontop of a desk and it's for someone who cares a lot about looks. Don't need a dedicated GPU I'm pretty sure but thanks for the suggestion.

Go intel Im running a i3 right now and its doing great for me!

Ok thanks mate.

AMD for sure, you will get so much better experience.

Seems to be the major opinion here.

Definitely get the AMD build.

Also you forgot to include a motherboard for the Intel system so the price of that will be ever higher...

So yeah... AMD! :D

Didn't forget to include. Forgot to mention in OP I have a Z68 Gigabyte board here that I can use. OP updated.

What are you going to use that build for? Just browsing or as HTPC? I would go with the AMD one.

Office, internet and light multimedia. No gaming.

I would say that it doesn't really matter then. I would still go with AMD because of the more powerfull GPU.

Also aren't you missing a motherboard in the Intel build?

Even an i3 would be overkill in this case.

A G1610 would suffice: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1p6eS

I3 > g1610 all day for all uses because it has hyper threading, thus 4 threads which can greatly help it do all tasks efficiently.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

CPU: Phenom II x6 1045t ][ GPU: GeForce 9600GT 512mb DDR3 ][ Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ][ RAM: 2x4GB Kingston 1333MHz CL9 DDR3 ][ HDD: Western Digital Green 2TB ][ PSU: Chieftec 500AB A ][ Case: No-name without airflow or dust filters Budget saved for an upgrade so far: 2400PLN (600€) - Initial 2800PLN (700€) Upgraded already: CPU

Office use the i3 will be overkill, so will the amd.

Get a something like a Celeron like WoodenMarker suggested, the G1610.
As for hyperthreading, screw that. It's only usefull for someone who sits in photoshop and the like, so if your friend is not, then go Celeron.

Also a reason to choose Intel over AMD is first, better temps, especially on the lower end cpu's and better reliabillity.
Lower Temps = Lower Noice (less work needed from cooling).

As for the cooler, stock coolers are loud and ugly, so I would suggest getting a small aftermarket cooler to get silent and good performance. (Like the one that you suggested)

So what this all comes down to is the intended use, because for office use, both of those CPU's that you chose to start are overkill :)

Hope you figure it out.

Everyone have a cool signature. I don't, so I thought I would write something.

- Cool right?
