Doing the Upgrade...

Statik

Hey guys,

So I'm pretty confident that I want to do a fresh install of Windows 10 and use it to deep clean my PC. I've backed up a few movies, some music, and some old skyrim saves.

Is doing a fresh install as simple as downloading the launcher thing to a USB (will it erase what's on my USB?), then booting my rig from the USB, and going through the install process? Or is there a different way to do it?

Do the upgrade first. This way you get your free MSA. Then clean install afterwards and input the number when asked.

*edit

It takes a little time to get it done but your better off doing so. If you prefer to do the clean install instead of upgrading first you will need to purchase an MSA.

MSA (Microsoft Software Authentication)

I meant what the poster below pictured, not clean install, do the recovery install, it will be the same as a fresh install.

You're putting the OS on the USB so it'll delete whats on there before. You'll need to upgrade to Windows 10 first to get your Win10 key to allow the fresh install.

Microsoft will recognise your PC so you won't need to enter a product key. When it asks for one just click skip.

Here's a set of instructions from Ars Technica.

Great! Thanks!

My dad also updated a few days ago, and has a USB with Win 10 on it. Can I just use that USB? Or do I need to make my own?

You can reuse the USB, it's like an installation disk.
