$200 Headphones?

Go to solution Solved by dre92,

I recommend: Audio Technica ATH-MSR7, Philips Fidelio X2, Sony MDR-1A.

Out of those 3, I'd pick the MSR7 for EDM because of its deep detailed bass, and the X2 for classical music because it offers better wider soundstage and instrumental separation, but either way you should be good with either EDM or Classical music since both offers nice deep detailed bass without necessarily overwhelm both the mids and treble. The MDR-1A is almost as good as the MSR7, it has a very slightly less bass than the MSR7, slightly wider soundstage, and less clamping force (more comfortable for long period of use). However I personally still prefer the X2 for comfort because of the pad's material. Both the MSR7 and the MDR-1A are often priced between $210 - $249, while the X2 is I think $299 but I've seen it as low as $239.

Idk why the majority of people in this forum almost always recommend the HD598 or M50(X). It's like they've only tried those two products and/or only have those 2 products and then tell people to buy them regardless of their needs. For you people who are offended by this comment, sorry I'm not sorry, please do your research before recommending someone a good product for THEIR specific needs, not YOURS.

I'm not saying the HD598 and the M50(X) are bad products, but look, the OP has $250 to spend and he wants to listen to EDM and Classical music. The way I see it, that means the OP is looking for a pair of headphones that can offer nice deep bass as well as great soundstage, and for $250 it is totally possible. Yes the M50(X) might work, it has deep bass, but there are definitely better options for $250 which can offer the same amount of bass if not better, as well as wider soundstage since the M50(X) has almost no soundstage. And then HD598, for EDM? Really? It sure has wide soundstage, but definitely not enough bass for EDM.

AKG Q701 (slightly over $200 sometimes) , HD 598 (but lacks bass for electronic)

well for the $200 hard budget I would suggest Sennhieser HD 598's.  They regularly come on sale for $150.  They are very open sounding and I really their sound with electronic music...

Q701, K712, Mad Dogs - seriously look into these.

K712s are GREAT for classical, electronic, not so much,

I second the AKG Q701.  I find them comfy (a lot of others don't)

Look around for the Q701's if you can't locate them at a decent price and you can wait a bit to purcahse maybe take a look into Massdrop's K7xx, or 553.  More friendly on the wallet.

Maybe something from Hifiman. HE 400/400S

HE 400s are utter shit. HE 400i fixed every problem, and more. 400i's all the way :)

They are two different headphones... some may prefer one over the other. The 400is are also twice the price of the HE 400.

No doubt they are far from "utter shit" what exactly do you mean by that? When I hear a term like that I would think of the headphones they give you on airplanes.

There are three Hifiman headphones under the 400 series... HE-400, HE-400i, and HE-400S...

OP doesn't like the 598, and he already owns m50X...

@OP, for classical and electronica... hmmmm.... If you can find an HE-500 used for $300, it is soooooo worth it...Otherwise, Sennheiser HD600/HD650. Those are both great headphones, and I think you should be able to find them for ~$300...

A good $200-$250 headphone that is best at Classical/Electric Music

I don't really know :/

I already have a amp/dac

Sennheiser 598 are very good for classical, but the only issue is Electronic relies on bass if I'm not mistaken where the 598 are more treble heavy but it won't sound BAD. The detail is very important in classical and the Sennheisers are very good at picking out all of the finer details in a peice. If you care more about the Electronic I'd go with a Beyerdynamic DT 770, 880, 990, or maybe even Audio Technica M50x

I still think that the AKG K7XX are great for the money. Considering they're very close to my K712 Pros for $200~ less then I paid. However, the downside is warranty and they're made in China.

However, OP I just found these! K612s for $135! Damn.
