Is it time to upgrade yet?

Well i don't get bad performance in my games... sure i can't run everything in all titles, but most i can crank the visuals that make a difference, like Ambient Occlusion and Textures... though i could not run Sniper Elite V2 with Ultra textures as it made my game stutter.... but high looked not that much different.

I run a 7770 1GB at the moment, been a good card, and i run a Phenom II x6 at 3.9ghz.

Should i go Skylake? i am seeing this CPU has a good advantage over Haswell with cards like TITAN X and 980Ti... they are able to spread their wings more with a Skylake i7 vs a Haswell i7.

But then i will still be stuck with my 7770...

If you dont want to spend much get an FX chip and a cheap motherboard. If you want to switch to intel Get Haswell because skylake is wayy to much money atm.

its only 20$ difference from the chips and the mobo's are around 100$ which is decent price of a z97....

not that much but eh

Hmm.... if you CAN afford SKylake, then use that money to get an i5 4440 + mobo h81. That also leaves room to get a decent GPU, that 7770 is pretty outdated.

Well ok, i doubt i can stretch the i7 with a 980Ti...

But maybe a 6600K with a 960?

BTW i was proper impressed that my 7770 could run Wolfenstein The New Order with almost everything turned up at 1080p...

32-60FPS throughout..

I see ... How about better AMD CPU?

As you can see this forum doesn't like AMD too much since they know nothing about it and believe every benchmark they see

I would suggest for you some of the Intel i5 or AMD FX 8**** and new r9 380

Most benchmarks exhibit the FX chips as inferior to Phenom II's... i mean a 4.5ghz FX is equal to a 3.8ghz Phenom II.

stop. stop. FX chips are DEAD there is no use for them in a current market. Completely dead and irrelevant. Don't recommend them to people.

According to Luke, Skylake + Gtx 980 ti got a 7fps (~60%) improvement in one specific cenario. Not that 19 FPS is really playable, nor that the same is valid for every game, but hey, there ARE reasons to get Skylake over Haswell. Gaming, for the MOST PART, is just not one of them.... yet. When multi-gpu DX 12 comes (if..?), then it will surely be.

just saying if you want the bang for the buck and you want to waste your money on something viable then sure... go for it... but i recommend a decent i5 and a better gpu....

Skylake will take a lot of money from the budget, haswell will be lot cheaper and only very slightly worse.

GPU is the thing you want to prioritize in gamig PC.

Get 390X with best i5 you can afford.

You may need new PSU though
