I'd either get the i5-4460 and ASRock H97 Anniversary (or an i5-4590 if it's on sale)

Name comes from anagramed sticker for "TUF Inside" (A sticker that came with my original ASUS motherboard)

Will the performance difference in games be worth getting the 4590? I am relatively new to PC gaming so just want to make sure before dropping the money.

It was on sale for the same amount as the 4460 for me, I'd go for it since it's only like $10 more and the slightly higher clockspeed is nice

Performance won't be noticeable maybe by like 1-3 fps

i upgraded from the FX-8320 i had running at 4.6GHZ paired with a GTX780 (weaker than a 970) and IMHO it was fully worth it if you're any serious about your gaming experience and if you don't like running games such as dying light or GTA5 at 40FPS...anybody stating otherwise is clueless...the i5-4460 is a worthy upgrade to anything on AM3+socket including the FX-9590 but i would try to get at least an unlocked haswell such as the core i5-4690K.
