Enough thermal paste?

xnoobftw

I've recently bought an mx-4 and after applying it once I've realised i really had added too little ( i thought that mx4 was a fluke then). After that i decided to reapply and this is what I've got.

is this enough? and should the thermal paste and the side of the chip itself bother me?

actually it's not enough. All thermal paste makers suggest to use the whole tube, because that is what is needed. /s

Seriously what to much, and do a cleaner job. You just wasted good thermal paste, that won't even do a good job, because you put too much.

Did you clean off the stock paste?

EDIT- thats also pretty cool already. My 290 with antec 7 ran at about 94 till I shoved a kraken G10 and 280mm rad onto it.

Yeap! But the ones on the side of the chip was really hard to get off so i didnt bother (and i didnt wanna break something)

Unlike life, less is better for thermal paste to avoid air bubbles.

Is the cross really too much? :o

so your lying to yourself? You said you added more paste. You have to redo the whole thing again. Just ad a dot line or thin layer. What a waste of good paste

well since there is no heat spreader just make sure that the thermal paste is making contact with the GPU die and heat sink.

Step 1: Watch this video

Step 2: Clean the thermal paste with 70+% isopropyl alcohol

Step 3: Apply a BIT of thermal paste

Step 4: reassemble

Step 5: Profit?

one drop is enough. Im not quite sure why they think they need to cover the whole surface. all that does is increase the heat.

Yeah that spreading method has been shown to leave air bubbles, which hurts performance. A natural spread by the heatsink is better.
