If you go here, click on the check box at the left hand side for each of the 2 boards you want to compare, then scroll down to the bottom and click the "Compare" button you'll get a table displaying the differences. There is/was a way to do this on the ASUS site, but I can't get it to work...

ddr3 and ddr4 on the first view

Both are ddr4.

EDIT: my apologies, we have a ddr3L board....And no it isn't compatible with normal DDR3, if you think you're getting a shortcut on upgrading, you're not.

M.2 slot is located differently. gaming uses the extra room for some heat dissipation by the looks of things. do you really want a 100 degree+ part right next to the cpu?

Ok, i understand, this is really strange (DDR3) as i thought all z170 boards would be with DDR4---

Z170 supports both DDR3L and DDR4, thought DDR4 will be more common.

HAF 912  •  i5-2500k  •  16GB DDR3  •  980Ti  •  2x 480GB Intel 730  •  3x Dell U2715H

technically z170 is compatible with ddr3, ddr3L, and ddr4. It is up to the motherboard manufacturer to implement it however. This is the first ddr3L board I've seen.

A number of reputable sites (such as AnandTech) have reported that there will be boards in the future with support for both DDR3L and DDR4 (but NOT both at the same time...):

We have had word of some DDR3L-only motherboards coming, as well as combo boards with DDR3L and DDR4 slots on board. Caveat one-point-five, you can use either DDR3L or DDR4, but not both at the same time.

Caveat number two, DDR3L is different to DDR3 as it operates at a lower voltage. This means that the memory controllers on Skylake most likely have a combined voltage domain, and regular DDR3 might not work (in fact early testing suggests not without reducing the voltage). Very few people currently own DDR3L DIMMs, so the likelihood of a user performing an upgrade while reusing their RAM might be slim.

and the regular ddr3 implementation was being pitched at the really low end of the spectrum, basically POS terminals, pokie machines etc....It's compataible, it just won't be worth anyone's time to implement it for awhile yet.
