so my friend wants to upgrade his current PC (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FDkgWZ#problems) so he asked me for help and said "i want to be able to play any game" and i said "well that's easy just get a 980" but then i went to look for some CPUs and noticed i know nothing about CPUs.

he also wants to upgrade his motherboard, ram, PSU (if required) and the case if its required. Also he doesn't care if its intel, amd or nvidia he just wants the best he can get for 850$.

thanks in advance.

First off, he should sell his stupidly expensive sound card, his $300 in case fans, his CPU, and his GPU. Nothing about that computer says "gaming". he spent more on case fans than he did on his CPU and GPU combined...

"LTT's official.."STOP. I promise you aren't LTT's official bagel eater or whatever. Trust me.

Where is he putting those 10 fans?  :o

Also 1600*900 monitor, so he will be fine with something like 280x/380/960 for high/ultra gaming

CM's bundled PSU might not be good enough IMO

Finally got PS4 Pro

What kind of build is that.Rather then a $850 upgrade why not build a brand new $850 system?

I will list what I think is worth keeping:

RAM

Case if he likes it (but not the bundled PSU)

Bluray player

Windows key

ASUS wifi card

Half the fans

KB/mouse for now maybe

Will update with suggested replacments for everything else.

A couple things, he already has a 4GB stick of ram, so why not just get another 4GB stick? Also his current case might still work, although not sure if the hyper 212 can fit. I don't think a $100 case makes a ton of sense for this budget unless he's a constant tweaker and will be moving things around and adding things really often. I did a build in a CM N200 and it's pretty nice for $35, providing he doesn't need the fan controller. And lastly, the 750W SuperNova B2 is only $50 and is SuperFlower whereas I don't think the first gen one is, so probably worth that $10. I like the overall direction, just had some slightly different thoughts. I also fit a Z series board and an SSD, which is the main advantage of my config, but the 970 is a few percent better than the 290 in games.

Hi! I'm Snop Doog's Friend! :3 And this is the PC Upgrades I'm planing on getting. ==> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GKbChM

Based on what your friend opened the post with... I don't think what you picked is the best option. Will it work? Yes. Is it the best bang for $$$? No.

You're over the $850 budget, and still only gaming at 900p.

Proof you are over original budget. I put in $100 for the motherboard, I bet it's more though. Probably $130, I'll let that $30 slide though.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($359.99 @ NCIX US)

So your total is reaching almost $1000 and you are still only playing at 900p.

I would say the H80i is crap for it's price as well.

The R9 380 will run games at 1080p 60fps... but only between Medium-High settings. Pretty much never on Ultra. You will see <45 fps dips in games if you try, and with only 2gb of Ram prepare to turn down a lot of filters in AAA games. GTAV? nope, better turn those settings down or off.

Sorry if this all sounds rude toward you decision, but I'm just being completely honest.
