Fractal Design Core 500 Build Log

nstclair13

Hey everyone, new to the forums...I've been around for awhile lurking but just recently made an account so I haven't posted much. Anyways, I wanted to share my latest build with all of you! I needed a new machine for work (and play) and have always wanted to do an ITX build but never really commited to it. Well, this time I went full speed ahead. This is a WIP as I haven't backed up my current system yet, so I don't have an SSD or HDD in the new machine.

The Guts:

Intel Core i7-5960X
Corsair H105 with Noctua NF-F12 PWM (x2)

Noctua NF-A14 PWM (x1)

ASRock X99E-ITX
16GB G.Skill Ripjaws Series DDR4-2400 Memory (Split this  32GB set into 2x16GB sets as I have another build I'm doing soon for my wife.)
Samsung 840 EVO 500GB (NOT INSTALLED YET....currently using it in my PC right now typing this) - Would eventually like to get something larger.
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Classified
Fractal Design Core 500 Mini ITX Desktop Case
Silverstone Strider Gold S 850W

Looks nice! It's really interesting to see someone doing a build with that mITX board.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

How did you get the h105 mounted on the motherboard. This mobo uses the narrow ilm bracket

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Since Asetek make the Actual pump n water block for Corsair (among others), they also make a narrow ILM mounting bracket that you can buy. It fits their round water block coolers:

Corsair

h110

h105

h90

h75

h55

h50

NZXT

X31

X41

X61

ThermalTake

The Water 3.0 line

Zalman

The LQ310/315/320 series

You can buy a narrow ILM kit from them directly here:
