5820K gaming performance?

Thats why I'm thinking of getting one. I can purchase on right now for $30 more than a Skylake i7- so I just thought, why not? Thing is, I'm only going to be gaming and occasionally editing video for class.

The 5820K has amazing value, my point before was, that value is not gaming, it's everything else. If you edit, stream or render, even ocasionally, and the difference is 30 bucks, go for it. You will also have more PCIe lanes (never know when you will need them) and DDR4, which means you won't be buying memory for a looooooooooooong time. Overclock it tho, you owe it to us who want it but can't afford it :P      jk

Wait, how about the 4790k vs the 5820k ? (price)

I've already got a 1150 build so I'm not gonna go 1150 again

I'll end up populating at least 3: 2 for GPUs and 1 for a Wi-Fi card.

And if in the future PCIe SSDs become more decently priced you'll be able to add that, or a sound card, or whatever, it's just nice to have the expandability.

haha. Its probably just a good option to take it, considering its only slightly more expensive, so if I ever need any of those additional features, then I at least have them in standby?

I'm just saying the difference between the 4790k and 5820k will be minor in games. You'll see an improvement in multi-threaded apps but not enough to justify the price tag OVER the 4790k. Putting it out there now.

Gaming generally

4690K + Stronger GPU would waste a 5820K + Weaker GPU

Game Streaming, 5820K will totally kick butt.

So GPU will be the same regardless

i vote for 5820k or 5930k if you have the budget

good for gaming and  editing video

and overlclock it to get more performance  :)

i5 with dual GPU and a 4x PCIe SSD, can't be done. It's not only about performance.

Same video card with a 4690k or a 5820k on MOST games would be the same. There might be some games that can take advantage of more than 8 cores (HT) but I can't name any of the top of my head. The higher clock of the 4690k is an advantage to an extent but the 5820k overclocks to 4.4 ghz easily at 1.3 Vcore. Beyond that is a bit of a crap shoot for both the 4690k and 5820k. The 4690k typically can reach 4.6-4.7 on 1.3 vcore.

I think you missed an important fact. Modern games do use more than 4 cores: gta v, witcher 3, bf4 for example.

So the advantage gaming is future-proofing.

read what i said about.

the difference in price tag totally justifies the amount of headroom you gain. 100$ extra for 40% more power; that's an insane deal.

Also another note:

Unlike in the US where the difference between a i5 and an Extreme i7 is $300+, in Australia the difference is more in the neighbourhood of $100.

Lots of people will base their opinion on what they got and what their availablity and prices are. If you can afford it and the difference is 30 bucks, it's a no brainer, go with the literally superior in every way CPU

He only does occasional video editing and game streaming, so the extra 40% performance will only be shown occasionally. OP already said he's not going to go to 1150 because he has a system that already is 1150, don't know what that has to do with it but w/e. Skylake is super pricy right now and the performance gains don't justify the steep price atm. If he thinks its worth, by all means buy it.

My point is the value of the 5820K is not gaming performance in general, but when the price difference is 30 bucks and he does some editing and other stuff, fuck it, get the badass 6 core that everyone with a lesser CPU wants.

Main reason why I downplayed 1150 is because as I said, the price difference is literally so negligible here in Australia that I'd pay $50 more just to purchase the CPU that is "better on paper" per say.

About $40 at my local store xD Then the difference from the latter to the 5820K is about $70 or so. So all in all the difference between is about $+-100
