My point is the value of the 5820K is not gaming performance in general, but when the price difference is 30 bucks and he does some editing and other stuff, fuck it, get the badass 6 core that everyone with a lesser CPU wants.

according to some people he 5820k gets better frametimes because of the larger cache, idk if thats true tho.

regardless the difference in gaming is the future-proofness. i reckon a 5820k will have 1-3 yr of more life in it than a 6700k for gaming, So the cost difference will pay for itself in not needing to upgrade prematurely.

Depends on resolution.

Not many people keep a system for more than 3 years. For instance, i upgrade once a year.

Same story with me. But if I were to go X99, it may save me some extra cash as I may just need to grab a new GPU every year or so.

with 4k and dx12 5820k will be hella future-proofed.

I guess... But if an intel cpu is "cheap" maybe i should buy from amds ancient line since they are holding up great after 3 years of no development... oh wait.

That's the idea. Even an i5 purchased now at 1080p, 1440p, and 4k will last several gpu upgrades before it absolutely needs to be upgraded. @RohanLeRoux

Who knows, maybe you could put the upgrade money into another PC down the line, HTPC, LAN, second PC for something different, once you go with intel-e in general that CPU should last you for comfortable usage for 4-5 years, it's another game compared to mainstream
