u wont lose any fps really using fraps for fps readings only, it uses such little resources any cpu wouldnt be affected by it at all ( unless ur talking about 10mhz chips lol )

as soon u start recording, sure then it becomes encoding and thats where ul drop in fps due to alot of cpu resources beeing used

Hey guys,

I just wanted to ask how many fps do I lose while I'm using the fps counter from Fraps in-game?

Thanks!

Don't know much about fraps, but if it doesn't get fixed, OBS is an alternative that I've had no issue with. Assuming you have specs that are greater than mine, you should be able to record 1080p60 no problem.

GIGABYTE Z97MX-G516GB DDR3 | I5 4690k @ 4.4ghz | 1TB SSHD, 500GB HDD, 128GB SSD | GTX 1070 8GB | Corsair Graphite 230 | EVGA 650W | Hyper 212 EVO

Cinebench R15: 636(all cores), 127FPS

if u do any sort of recording, please do not use fraps... use OBS or a GPU accelerated encoding tool

use the cuda cores on nvidia for example with OBS ^^

using cuda cores for recording ( depending on wich gpu u have and how many cuda cores u got ) u shouldnt see any difference at all in fps even when recording

I didn't lose any.

But you have Steam's fps overlay too, which works pretty well :)

For FPS monitoring, there will be practically zero performance difference from using Fraps, MSI Afterburner, Steam or any other overlay.

Just make sure the recording/encoding is not set to a hotkey you are likely to use while playing games, if they activate there will most likely be a significant performance hit.

One thing to note, though. Fraps can have trouble with some Direct3D applications, causing them to crash or just fail to launch. Most of them will give you a warning, though.

steam overlay can cause for huge fps drops in quite a few games actually,  fraps wont :P

Oh, haven't noticed.. (Or maybe I have and blamed it on my PC?)
