1: No

2: some boards are ddr4 others will support ddr3

3: Yup

4: Yes expect more enthusiast ones

5: All of the big boys but only buy Asus lol

6: cannolake is the next gen

7: I wouldn't even bother with skylake.. id build a a z97 rig with a i7 4790k, save money and get the same experience in gaming. DDR4 makes no difference in games, and more do the new processors

and yeah on the 970 front.. drop them.. a 980ti is way better in every way and performs almost the same.. plus more gram!

1. No

2. Some support DDR3/L but its safer to say that most will only support DDR4, lets face it, its time to move on

3. DDR3L is low voltage ram that you would usually find in something like a laptop.

4. Quite sure of it :)

5. All the big dogs, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, EVGA (Asus and MSI's offerings look to be the best currently)

6. Ive personally got no clue

7. Ill put a list together if youd like

EDIT: Here ya go ^_^

With the Air 540 you may also want to get some aftermarket case fans from Noctua or beQuiet! because in my experience the ones that come with the case itself are not as great as you may hope.

Yes I would love to see a list

Ill work on it :)

And btw, if you really did your research, youd want to go with a 980Ti, all youre really doing by getting 2X 970's now is giving yourself less updatability down the line when you may need it. The rule is to always get the single fastest card you can get then SLI later.

The 980Ti will be just as good if not better depending on whether the game youre playing supports SLI or not.

Also, check my original post my recommended parts list :D

Cannonlake is the codename of the first cpu series produced at 10nm.

But before that we will probably see Kaby Lake first, which is an optimized version of Skylake.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Look towards the top of the page, trust me you are better off with getting a 980Ti then SLI'ing later down the line.

With graphic cards you are better off getting a single top end gpu rather than a couple of lower end cards.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

seriously if you did proper research you'd have discovered the 980ti is the best gpu for you and the best gpu for driving 1440p monitor.

970s not only have the ramgate issue you're also relying on SLI profiles which.. aren't ever that great.. plus you can get micro stuttering and other sli related issues..

you'd be making a mistake getting 970s over a 980ti

970 SLI problems:

Micro Stuttering.

Takes more PCIe lanes/slots, so less potential for lots of add in cards (storage, sound cards, etc.).

Not all games support SLI, will run with just 1 970.

Need an SLI Bridge.

More heat in your case- more heat in room, better case ventilation/water cooling required.

Only 4(3.5)GB of RAM, which could become a problem at 1440p/4K, which I presume is what you are playing at.

Overclocking more limited- If you have one good overclocker and one bad one, the GPUs will sync to the lower one.

Less Upgradeability- 3/4 970s is a STUPID idea, whereas the 980Ti SLI is the logical next step for upgrading.

Need a more expensive mobo- not all motherboards support SLI.

More likely to need to RMA your cards, 2 are more likely to have a problem than 1.

970 SLI advantages:

SLIGHTLY more performance.

Looks good.

Nice research there m8, reeealy good.

This is pretty much my dream system and would be good for you.. Lol. Now, this is OVERKILL, but it would perform amazingly and look good. You could get a cheaper mobo (Z170 A), cheaper RAM (This kit glows), and a cheaper PSU( added 1000W in case of SLI 980ti in future.

1. Skylake uses socket 1151, so no, it's not backwards compatible.

2. Most will support ddr4, some ddr3l.

3. Ddr3l uses lower voltage of 1.35v. ddr3 voltage is 1.5v and ddr4 is 1.2v.

4. Yes, those will be them non-k models.

5. Almost all of them are making skyline boards.

6. Codename for future Intel processor.

7. With ddr4 being used in skylake and your budget is $2500, go with x99.

It seems there is a bug with pcpp. On their site, this build comes out to $2,455.43
