Any tips to get my fx 8350 to 5ghz?

Currently have my cpu at 4.8 ghz with 20 multi 240 fsb 1920 ram 2400 nb 2640 ht 1.43 cpu volt 1.1625 cpu/nb volt

Llc is ultra high

Mb is an asus kitty.

Ram settings untouched

Should I add more volts to cpu or is there another setting I have to use?

Thnx for help

also monitor VRM as excessive VRM temps can make for instability.

So needs more voltage?

pretty much yeah, with higher overclocks ul reach a voltage barrier it could be that 5ghz wouldnt even be stable with 1.6v(dont try 1.6 lol 1.55 is absolute max)... gonna be luck of the draw if it can even push to 5ghz or not ... could be that ur chip goes up to 4.85/4.9ghz and then no matter how much voltage u apply it wont be stable :P but yeah goodluck :D

Put 1.5 volts booted but then froze. Please keep I mind that I'm overclocking with fsb not multiplier

Do I have to do anything with my ram?

if you are running it too far out of spec it might be worth dropping it down a notch before you go

why the fsb anyway? fsb overclocking tends to play a little less nice, i personally do multipler and then increase the HT link and bus speeds separately (between 2600 and 2800 depending on board)

Was following jay2cents video. Plus they say that you get better per core performance than multiplier clocking

Given that you are already using 1.43V for 4.8GHz, are most likely going to need to push into the 1.45V ~ 1.5V zone for 5.0GHz.

CPU temperatures should not be an issue for you because of your custom water-cooling loop, but as mentioned previously, keep an eye on the VRM temperatures.

You MAY need to play with both the multiplier and FSB to get your 5.0GHz goal.

Your HT-Link doesn`t need to be that high. It should really just match your CPU-NB frequency (2400MHz). Back in the Phenom II days, the CPU-NB and HT-Link frequency had a pretty big performance impact on the memory -- it isn't so much now on the newer AM3+ chips.

My tip to you:

  1. Slowly work your way up. See if you can get 4.9 GHz working first. THEN try getting 5.0 GHz.
  2. Keep an eye on your VRM temperatures. Even though the 990FX sabertooth has a good VRM configuration, when you are dumping 1.5V+ on the Core Voltage, and 1.25V+ onto the CPU-NB, SB, NB, and such, the temperatures start to stack up.
  3. Keep the VRM temperatures below 70*C, or else thermal throttling starts to kick in.
  4. Part of point 2; the NB chipset shares the same heatsink the VRM uses. If the NB gets into the 60*C~70*C, system stability beings to tumble. My Crosshair V Formula, and your Sabertooth have a similar motherboard design.
  5. ...can't think of another one (yet)

Otherwise...

NB or CPU-NB?

They are two different things.

NB is the NorthBridge chipset on the motherboard; the so-called "990FX" chipset.

CPU-NB is part of the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) inside the Processor chip.

I'm sorry you are right I was talking about cpu nb

If the system runs stable with the current CPU-NB frequency, and voltage, then you are okay to leave it as it.

Post a few screenshot of your UEFI BIOS settings if you can.

Pro-Tip: Your motherboard should have a "F12: Print Screen" option that will save the screenshots into a USB flash drive (if you have on plugged in).
