Need help for a budget system

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

She can't stand noise at all. I guess that it won't make that much of a difference though. How is the build quality on the N200? Is it mostly plastic or steel? She would like a solid quality case and the plastic would bother her.

And is cable management okay with that case?

It's steel body. Just look at the pictures of the case insides: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119274

If it's too loud still, you could always replace the fans with some noctuas and it'd still be cheaper and probably quieter.

So my friend wants a new desktop but she is on a budget, $500 to $600. I'm not an expert of lower end systems so I would definitely like some advice.

This is the build I have so far http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1nTRw

No need for the OS.

Is this good? What else would you guys suggest?

Edit : Her use case is homework, movies, music, and minor games like Elsword. She doesn't need a dedicated graphics card. She would also prefer it to be a very quiet build.

Man, if the case wasn't so expensive you probably could have squeezed in a dedicated GPU, like a 7790 or something, paired with an FX-6300.

Get the a10 6800k and grab a kit of 2400Mhz RAM instead of 1333Mhz RAM as the APU's from AMD get ridiculous performance gains from fast RAM.

Edit* Also grab a Hyper 212 evo or something so that you get do a slight overclock on the APU to squeeze even more performance out of the build.

Can you get stuff from microcenter?

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

I suggest a gpu

She doesn't need a GPU as she doesn't play graphics intensive games. :P

@TechTheWorld : I'm in Canada so no I can't.

@BlackOutCrisis : I'm afraid that would be over the budget she has. :(

although i would suggest a dedicated gpu it can always be added later, also the memory you chose will bottleneck the apu ALOT, with apu's its suggested to use atleast 1866mhz mem in alot of cases and in the benches ive tested myself it does make a large difference and when it comes to apu gaming every frame counts ;)

Ok cool.

Is she going to use much storage?  If not I'd axe the WD drive and slap a 120GB Samsung 840 in there.  It'd still keep it under $600.

EDIT: You also might want an aftermarket CPU cooler.  I can't imagine the stock AMD cooler is very quiet.

Ahh I see. Well she won't be gaming very much so I don't think that matters for her. I will look into it though. Thanks for informing me. :)

@MdX MaxX : I think she will need the storage so a SSD is a no go.

What CPU heatsink do you suggest?

What I mentioned is only 70$ more and only 40$ more without the CPU cooler, don't really understand how 40$ more puts her over a 600$ budget when your are only at 500$ now...................................................

Alrighty.  Well other than that it looks good.  Seems to fit the use case nicely.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1nUU9 It's over by $20. I suppose I could convince her  to spend more but she wants to spend as little as possible. Even $600 is stretching it a bit for her.

Both of those are only 20$ more than what you had in the partpicker. I'm pretty sure 20+20=40......

Canadian prices are slightly higher than American and I'm adding in shipping plus taxes. :P I will definitely look into your suggestion though. Thanks. :)

@WoodenMarker : Your build does seem better. I'm going to take out the dedicated graphics card though as she doesn't need it, thanks a lot!

If you are sure about not getting a dedicated gpu: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1nVc0

Don't forget to overclock the cpu a bit.

Is this okay? My friend wants a silent build so I want to keep the Fractal Design Define kind of case.

And yes I will definitely try to overclock her CPU a bit for her.

That works fine but is she up for paying $65-70 more for a padded case? The case doesn't make it silent. It just muffles it a bit.

The case I chose isn't exactly loud.

She can't stand noise at all. I guess that it won't make that much of a difference though. How is the build quality on the N200? Is it mostly plastic or steel? She would like a solid quality case and the plastic would bother her.

And is cable management okay with that case?

If you did not buy the pc case i would have gone for a fractal design artic midi rev 2.0 ,  According to asrock specification sheet an amd a series apu should have the capability of a radeon hd 7000 series chip so your good on your graphic capability  I would go with a after market cpu cooler  & upgrade to 1866 memory

I have not bought the case yet. Why do you suggest the Arc Midi? Do you think it's worth the $100 price point?

The arc midi series is more for airflow while the define series is more for silence which is what the OP is looking for.

There's also no need for a dedicated gpu.

Kudos on the spoiler though. Good on you for using one.
