New Laptop for School

Hello, seeing as school is starting up again soon, I am in the market for a new laptop. This laptop must meet these requirements (I understand that it's not your job to spoon-feed me but I'd still appreciate it): 

 

1) At least a Full-HD screen, i've been stuck with 1366x768 for far too long

2) Preferably under 14 inches, although I may be willing to get a 15 inch laptop

3) I'd prefer an i5 or an i7, but anything above a core M-5Y50 will work

4) Dedicated graphics would be a plus, but at this price point I'm not sure if it'll fit in

5) At least 8GB of ram, I do a lot of multitasking and my Computer Science course will have me doing a lot of compiling

6) Preferably a 256GB SSD, but it's not really necessary, i'd be willing to stick with a regular HDD for now

7) A thickness of <1.2 inches, and a weight of less than 3.2lbs

 

Now, the real kicker, is to find a laptop with all these specs, for under $1200 Canadian, I don't understand why laptop prices in Canada are so ridiculous, but to be fair, the Canadian dollar is weak as hell right now, so I wish you luck, and thank you all in advance!

Macbook Pro.

 

They are amazing. I have a 2012 macbook pro, popped an SSD in it, killed Mac OSX since I am not a fan and run windows on. Great chassis, amazing screen, great battery, and great trackpad. The new retina ones are even better than mine, and I still love mine!

 

Let the mac flame and hate come, I stick by it. They make a damn good chassis.

I know they're OP as hell, and I'd never buy one, but have you considered an Apple laptop?

 

Apart from dedicated graphics, you've basically said you want a Ultrabook, although these tend to be slightly more than your asking price by $100-$200 CAD.

 

A dell XPS 13 with the exact specs you've listed is $1400 CAD.

Oh how I despise Apple now. I used to sorta hate them now I really really hate their guts. I am not going to explain as I don't care. I might sound ignorant but an Apple user calling someone else ignorant is plain stupid. If you are using it for windows you are paying a lot more for that stupid Apple logo and grey chassis.

Just keeping this here as a Hello, seeing as school is starting up again soon, I am in the market for a new laptop. This laptop must meet these requirements (I understand that it's not your job to spoon-feed me but I'd still appreciate it): 

 

1) At least a Full-HD screen, i've been stuck with 1366x768 for far too long

2) Preferably under 14 inches, although I may be willing to get a 15 inch laptop

3) I'd prefer an i5 or an i7, but anything above a core M-5Y50 will work

4) Dedicated graphics would be a plus, but at this price point I'm not sure if it'll fit in

5) At least 8GB of ram, I do a lot of multitasking and my Computer Science course will have me doing a lot of compiling

6) Preferably a 256GB SSD, but it's not really necessary, i'd be willing to stick with a regular HDD for now

7) A thickness of <1.2 inches, and a weight of less than 3.2lbs

 

Now, the real kicker, is to find a laptop with all these specs, for under $1200 Canadian, I don't understand why laptop prices in Canada are so ridiculous, but to be fair, the Canadian dollar is weak as hell right now, so I wish you luck, and thank you all in advance!

A Sager NP6659 might do the trick (I'm not sure how heavy it is) as it starts off with an i7 4710MQ, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 950.

With your budget you should be able to afford to upgrade to an 850 Evo (250GB) and a 1TB HDD.

Oh how I despise Apple now. I used to sorta hate them now I really really hate their guts. I am not going to explain as I don't care. I might sound ignorant but an Apple user calling someone else ignorant is plain stupid. If you are using it for windows you are paying a lot more for that stupid Apple logo and grey chassis. 

Lol, 100% not true. From an engineering standpoint their chassis are amazing, their trackpads are without doubt the best, and they make a point of only using the best parts (LCD panels for one, batteries for another, and overall materials third). You are paying for an experience, not performance, that is true. But you can't say they are crap, or that I am ignorant. I would never buy a Mac desktop, I don't even like OS X, and I can build a much more appealing desktop than a stupid imac. But their laptops, ipads and iphone are amazing feats of engineering.

Even though those things are what they copied. I don't want to argue but there is no denying Apple doesn't think of half the stuff they make

They have copied a lot of stuff, but they revolutionized the mp3 game with the ipod that got them SO much capitol they went apes hit on new products. The tablet, sure Microsoft did it first, but Apple did it WAY better. Smart phone, I kinda have to give that to apple, other phones "had smart features" but the iphone was the first one that even remotely mattered.

 

And you can't copy engineering, well you can, but apple didn't. The amount of people and time spent on design on a single iphone or macbook is probably equivalent to the amount of design engineers that Samsung in its entirety employ. You can't fake amazing design and amazing engineering, and when you are the only company doing it..... You can at least say you didn't steal that.
