The 390 performs a bit better, but the 970 uses way less power and is generally quieter. Unless you have a decent PSU, don't get the 390.

390 for preformance, 970 for eficiency and looks

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I would go with the 390. Better performance for the money. The only tradeoffs are the 390 creates more abit more heat, and requires more power. But as long as you have a decent PSU(which you have) then you should be fine. Just make sure you have good cooling in your system. Don't want it thermal throttling and wasting the extra performance.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

Get the 390! It has better performance not just in 1080p but also at 1440p :)
