Made the switch, lasted less than 24hrs...

So like many of you I decided to go ahead and upgrade my OS from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. The upgrade events went OK and then I decided to do a fresh install. I'm just funny like that. I do not want any additional crap on my main drive and I have never trusted Microsoft to actually do a totally smooth upgrade, no matter what anyone says.

 

So I had some issues with updating after the initial install was done. The updates would fail, then require a reboot, and then install. The install nor updates did not update the GPU (MSI GTX 980ti) and I needed to manually install the drivers. It also failed totally on doing the Office 2013 Pro server pack but after 2 separate reboots it worked.

 

As soon as I was able to get all the updating done I got WoW installed and SWTOR installed. I use OBS as my streaming application. And then got down to streaming some games.

 

The first thing I notice within 3-5 mins in SWTOR is the game suddenly and dramatically slows to a crawl. I check the task manager and see that I am using 14.9 of 16gigs of memory (at the time the only applications I had running were SWTOR, 1 tab of Chrome, Spotify, and OBS). I stop OBS, shut down everything and the memory only clears to 3gigs leaving nearly 12 gigs used. I reboot the machine and try WoW, same thing happens with 12gigs used using OBS. I reboot, try WoT (World of Tanks) 13.5gigs in use.

 

So I rolled back to Windows 8.1 and have been streaming tonight with only 5-6gigs total used.

 

So either Chrome or OBS has a serious memory leak. Or maybe I'm just not very good at these things :).

By no means has Nvidia released an official tested version as 3DMark confirms it is not an official licences. I would wait and see what new devs will use DX12

Just keeping this here as a So like many of you I decided to go ahead and upgrade my OS from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. The upgrade events went OK and then I decided to do a fresh install. I'm just funny like that. I do not want any additional crap on my main drive and I have never trusted Microsoft to actually do a totally smooth upgrade, no matter what anyone says.

 

So I had some issues with updating after the initial install was done. The updates would fail, then require a reboot, and then install. The install nor updates did not update the GPU (MSI GTX 980ti) and I needed to manually install the drivers. It also failed totally on doing the Office 2013 Pro server pack but after 2 separate reboots it worked.

 

As soon as I was able to get all the updating done I got WoW installed and SWTOR installed. I use OBS as my streaming application. And then got down to streaming some games.

 

The first thing I notice within 3-5 mins in SWTOR is the game suddenly and dramatically slows to a crawl. I check the task manager and see that I am using 14.9 of 16gigs of memory (at the time the only applications I had running were SWTOR, 1 tab of Chrome, Spotify, and OBS). I stop OBS, shut down everything and the memory only clears to 3gigs leaving nearly 12 gigs used. I reboot the machine and try WoW, same thing happens with 12gigs used using OBS. I reboot, try WoT (World of Tanks) 13.5gigs in use.

 

So I rolled back to Windows 8.1 and have been streaming tonight with only 5-6gigs total used.

 

So either Chrome or OBS has a serious memory leak. Or maybe I'm just not very good at these things :).

this is almost certainly a driver problem with the gpu...
