For those who have upgraded to win10 did you get a new license key?

Title^ is your license key different or the same? Does MS easily tell you your key so you can easily do a clean install?

Even if they don't give you it explicitly, it's not hard to extract the key.

nah 29th. Been rolling out for the last few hours. Where have you been?

Got it on my main rig and on my tablet right now.

 

You have to upgrade Windows 8.1 to 10 so your product key binds to the Windows 10 activation, then you should be able to use your previous key. If not, then windows should activate through your Microsoft account.

that hasn't been confirmed yet i dont think. They could give you a new key for win 10 and deactivate the old one. And it only binds to your MS account if you bought a key direct from MS

Got a generic key. Guess microsoft is doing activation verification through microsoft accounts if you have it.

dont know about the key but my product ID no longer says OEM. so guess if i use a key extractor i can wipe my drive when i get my new mobo and just use said key. or maybe log into the store verify i got win 10 and boom it activates again?

use this tool to see what type of key you have (oem, retail, etc)

It will also tell you your key if you do want to reinstall. If it's now tied to your MS account that would be amazing

Well they want windows to be a "service"and thats how all the services i know of work. They bind your key to an account/email. So thats probly how it works now. install win 10, log in with your registered account, move on with life.

its not rolling out to everyone on the 29th, MS said it could take a month before everyone is on Win10
