How often do you upgrade your Rig?

I haven't upgraded in 3 years, play most games at 1080p 60FPS on medium settings. More than I need at the moment, however might upgrade for when MGS V and battlefront release. PC hardware is kinda boring to me now anyway... It's just a means to play/create

it doesn´t matter because we all have different needs. If you want to play the latest games all maxed out everytime your gonna need to upgrade more often than that guy who maxes out games now but doesnt matter turning the settings down if need be to get an enjoyable gaming experience

Built it last summer, added a Kraken G10 to my GPU and got a couple new fans this summer for quieter operation. Performance wise, I am not impressed enough with the value of the more powerful GPUs to want to shell out the cash to upgrade past the R9 290. When there is something for ~$400 that makes the 290 look outdated, then I will upgrade. Would like a PCIe SSD, but idk if/when that'll happen at current prices. And my CPU/MOBO/RAM are still current somehow until Skylake comes out so I am not even considering an upgrade yet. I will probably skip Skylake and its non-die-shrink refresh and get Kaby Lake

I have had my PC for about six months now, and done a few small things like getting the 212 evo, and upgrading fans. Soon though I am going to be getting a new GPU to replace my current broken one, so I would say every six months I plan on upgrading something in it.

Don't even have mine built yet ): . At 14 saving up money is quite hard. $1400 more to go. The most I'd probably do is add fans or what not. Another SSD when my steam library got bigger, and a GPU if I felt like I was getting the frame rates I wanted in games.

It kind of comes in bursts - I'll spend $0 for like a year, and then splurge like $3500 at once. Then like $0 for another two years, and then $2000 all at once.

I only upgrade when it can't do what I need it too.

My over clocked 8350 and 670 FTW still function perfectly fine. I will upgrade when it starts to be too slow for me.

Sometimes weekly, although it depends on your definition of upgrade. I mostly just swap parts out just to see how it performs, cause tinkering is fun. Most of my upgrades are downgrades too, when a PC works flawlessly its boring to me, so I have to fix it till its broke.

I'm involved in many architecture and engineering studies. If you've ever heard of it, Graphisoft ArchiCAD v19 is one of the most demanding programs on the planet, and it is my main program that I use to render. We're talking like 80-story buildings complete with water pipelines and electric wire plans. I use this computer to essentially design large-scale buildings myself. The reason that I went for so much power is that I want it to be future proof, and not have to worry about serious upgrades for years to come. Let me say though, it does crush every program I throw at it. If you want to know more, message me. I'd be happy to share!

You are the first person I have asked that question to that has had a valid reason, not just 'I'm rich' or 'because I could'. I honestly didn't know there was a valid non-server use for one of those, thanks for letting me know about it!

I will use a PC till it ceases to function, or is incapable of performing the task at hand. If I upgrade a component, that still functions, I always make sure the old one is recycled or sold. I can't afford to constantly upgrade and hate waste.
