Well here nobody is/can be homeless due to social insurances, except if you are a jerk and WANT to be homeless. In that case they will give them acess to "Bed&Bad&Brood" (Bed&Bath&Bread) and some nice clothes to the point you can't be sure if someone is homeless or just a trucker. I have yet to seen an actual homeless person in the Netherlands, unlike in Paris where you find then on every street.

about 400,00 are in shelters so the number is closer to 210,000, so 0.06% of Americans are homeless. the 3.5 million is 1%. so not many people are homeless in the scale of the nation

<snip>

Not to be obvious here, but it seem you are trying to pick a fight here.

I and those others a quoting historical record for what happened in the war. Who cares about the top welfare country, if you enjoy paying all that money you make to your government its your choice.

Going off the deep end because we are putting out historical accuracy's is going low. We are not saying these thing to 'prove' American worth during the war it is well known that if it wasn't for US production and involvement Germany would have overwhelmed the continent and then after defeating Russia and England would have pushed further into the African continent. If the US stayed un-involved the US would have been attacked as well and possibly been overwhelmed as well. It was found that Germany was making ties with the then Mexican government, though this is a recent development there was a documentary put out a couple years ago about this, I would have to find it again in order to post tho.

Even 1 is too much? Why would anyone be homeless or live in poverty? Because the goverment doesn't want to tax these jerks to death unlike in Europe?

You guys always seem to showoff how the US is the "land of opportunity" while having worse conditions for the average citizen then most East-European countries.

Also, you think people with these things shouldn't pay big taxes for being jerks and destroying the environment?

Those who chose to live the way of poverty are allowed to do so at their wish. The land of opportunity is the opportunity to live how ever you want.

Many homeless here in the US (whether you chose to believe this or not) actually chose to live homeless. About 1/3rd of the homeless are in fact this way.

A lot of people do not understand the decision but you cannot make someone live the way you think they should.

Every homeless individual has the same opportunity to do better if they so chose to. Work hard, do it yourself, earn what you have. Nothing is deserved only earned. Prosperity is the achievement of ones desired to achieve a goal. The government did not start to company I work for or create the job I have nor did they start the company My friend started himself, he created the company and the jobs.

Socialist in this country will tell it differently.

"Work hard, do it yourself"

And what if they can't get/find a job? What if they have a disease? What if the have poor education thanks to the goverment? Then they better live on streets and possibly die? Yeah right.

How much in the end does a person "need" to live comfortably? Do they need a three story mansion with triple garage doors? Do they even need a car?

Its called Practicality.

Theoretical Question, Answer honestly if you can: So if I was a hard working guy make $25,000 and you were a poor lazy person, why should I give you any of my money I worked hard for?

Keep the answer to the point.

Because that's how taxes work.

You don't pay (enough) taxes ---> the education is shit ---> people don't get (good) jobs ---> repeat

It's because of people like you the US is in such shitty position in the world right now.

You are "proud" to be raised/born in the US but in the end you give a flying sh*t about the people in your "United States" country.

I apologize for my rant, forum mods but I think OP knows the difference now between Europe and US.

Top dog in what? Talking shit?

I have no single problem unlike you to admit that other country are doing better then mine, like the Scandinavian ones.

Also for your own information, the US only is about 4% of the global population, so the world doesn't spin around you, unlike you think. The population of the Europe is almost triple that of the US.

The top 10 countries with the best welfare are: (source:United Nation raport)

10 # Iceland

9 # Australia

8 # Austria

7 # Canada

6 # Finland

5 # Sweden

4 # Netherlands

3 # Switzerland

2 # Norway

1 # Denmark

If the only thing you have to brag about, for your country, is how good the welfare is.  Then you really need to re-evaluate the meaning of "bragging"

Furthermore who said anything about the US having the most people? It would be foolhardy to think an entire CONTINENT should have less people than 1 single country. So yes The whole of Europe has about twice as many people (742 million vs. 315 million)

As far as my top dog comment.

Look around and see which country has the greatest influence, in politics as well as culture, and then compare that with the list of 10 countries you cited.

oh boy, what a discussion i got myself into

It was bound to happen, but the silver lining is the interaction you see gives you a glimpse into your answer.

Why do the dutch need beer, cheese, or even chocolate?  The amount of money spent on such luxuries should be spent uplifting the 2.4 million that live under the poverty line within their country.

Here in the states we have a every person for themselves attitude because frankly anyone, and i mean anyone, can succeed here.

The fact that we have a lot of impoverished people only highlights the amount of people who have reconciled themselves to needing someone else's help (the government) to get by in life.

Yet despite the americans that languish in often self inflicted poverty Immigrants from Africa, Asia, and south america come here and kick ass.

These immigrants face a language barrier, often come from poverty not seen in the US since colonial times, and a complete lack of knowledge about our culture. They not only succeed but they thrive.

The key difference between them and americans is they want it more and they are willing to work for it.

They take low paying jobs knowing that its only a stepping stone to something better.

Americans these days take low paying jobs and then whine and complain how bad they have it.

This is what you said:

When you have been top dog for as long as we have you start thinking in more nationalistic terms.

What do you mean by "Top Dog"?

The US was never "Top Dog" until now, and I don't even see that changing any time soon. It's a country in it's baby shoes for christ sake.

I can walk in the center of a European city and see houses from back when the US wasn't even founded yet, or even not even discovered at all.
