I'd like a Messerschmitt BF109. For trips to the UK

This will inevitably have the same issue as every other flying car; it's not practical. The only places you could ever 'fly' it are open lands. If the land is open, you probably won't have much traffic... So whats the point. I doubt you would ever get them in a city, the noise and the danger they pose is just too high.

So whats the f*cking point.

If you are talking about a car that doubles as a plane, or a plane that doubles as a car, then you already have those. However, if you are doing it for liesure, a purposefully designed small plane and a decent car is a much better way to go for 99.9999% of people.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

I miss the good old days where people traveled long distances by being fired out of a cannon.

I don't see flying cars becoming a thing for a very, very, long time.

Right now a flying car would likely require the driver/pilot to have a pilots license (not an simple or cheap thing for the average person to get) and I'm sure the FAA would place all kinds of ludicrous restrictions on the use of flying cars as to make them impractical for normal use.

Currently the most practical flying car for the general public I could imagine would be some kind of a large quad coptor that flies its self.

If we're talking World War Two era then I think the ideal compact death machine would be a later Supermarine Spitfire with the 36.7L Griffon engine :)

The Spitfire is nice. But the Messer is just my preferred WW2 era machine^^

And the Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine is pretty interesting. Upside down V12

Unless I'm mistaken they also have water injection to reduce knocking and improving power output.

Will all airports shut down?

If flying cars are ever mad purchasable in our life time they will have very limited fuel making them only useful for shortish trips. So most airports will still stay open.

I'd shoot that down just because the LEDs on my corsair K95 are dying...

Most people can't even drive in a 2D enviroment. Do we really want mr. lowest-common-denominator in a flying machine?

I don't see this becoming a thing...ever. Not unless they're auto-guidance-only.

There's been flying cars around since 2003. They predicted that we would have them by 2010 as a purchasable product and by 2020 for mass production and for pretty much everyone to have one. I doubt it will every become a thing.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

People suck at driving in 2 dimensions, lets add a third to increase complexity. People suck at taking care of their car, lets add more functionality that can fail.

Until we have fully automated cars and planes, i cant see this shit ever working on any scale. The liability of something going wrong in the air is too high, requires too much training and knowledge. Even then you could still have something go horribly wrong and crash into some home filled with a family, or a school, or a hospital.

Humans are just too error prone to be allowed to do this on a large scale. Real pilots have tons of training, backup co-pilots, air traffic controllers, regulated pathways, huge full time maintenance crews, and tons and tons of safety and legal regulations. (and they still fuck up from time to time)

PEBKAC, Level 8 error, ID10T error, Biological Interface Error, call it what you want, but humans are stupid.
