I'm currently thinking about building a "console killer" gaming PC after lugging around my massive InWin GRone case to several LAN parties in the past.  I'm strongly considering building the case in Fractal Design's new Node 202 Mini ITX case once it's available for purchase at various online retailers.

Until then, what sort of suggestions do the Linus Tech Tips forums have in the way of components to put into this build (with a budget of around $1500)?

Screw console killers, how about a console slayer. (Also console killer is an annoying thing because it's like you're going off the base price of the unit you might be able to get around 30 to 50 fps @ 1080p with max/ultra settings (which isn't bad) though to beat a console it's ideal to have longevity and performance in mind (60+ fps @ 1080p ultra/max or 30-60fps @ 1440p ultra)

@othertomperson I know  ;)

(I know $700 to $1500 you can make a console "killer" but the aesthetic and quality generally have to take the back seat, and at least for me that's sort of hard to do.)

So I figure why not just make a console slayer and do it reliably and fashionably too.

I was looking at the node 202, and it's a stunning case, but how in the world do you fit a graphics card in that? The expansion slots seem to be parallel to the motherboard, so does it use a PCIe extension cable? But if so, shouldn't it be attached to something rigid other than the expansion slot?

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

It has to.

That's the solution I was thinking of, but then isn't the card only attached to the expansion slot? It's only one small screw holding that thing up and there is no way it doesn't rattle.

The whole point of this build was to use the Node 202 and have it be portable - like a console. ;)

Why not? I ran a 290 in a Node 304 and it was fine. :)

@nerdyotter - Here's what I'd put in the Node 202 with a budget of $1500:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($176.95 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Deepcool GABRIEL 61.9 CFM CPU Cooler  ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M-ITX/AC Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($42.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial M500 960GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($320.75 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card  ($648.95 @ Amazon)
Total: $1437.61

Cost of the case is not included, but this would be ballin! :D Can always go for a smaller SSD to help it fit your budget. I say, spend the money where it matters for gaming - on the GPU. There's no need to overclock the CPU in a tiny case like this, so don't bother with a k-CPU and Z97 board. This i5 and board combo would be more than adequate. ;)

It uses a PCIe riser card. You plug the GPU into the PCIe slot and screw it in like you would in a normal case, except it's at a 90 degree angle.

No sense in a 4790k for the sole purpose of gaming. Especially when the budget is only $1500

No need for 16GB ram or a $218 motherboard either. ;)

There's a GPU chamber and a support bracket that slides for differently sized GPUs.

https://youtu.be/YsDW0Q9Jeas?t=3m35s

How do I embed a video, and in a case like this (event, not the node), should I tag you, requote, or is there a better way to send you a notification

It uses a PCIe riser card. You plug the GPU into the PCIe slot and screw it in like you would in a normal case, except it's at a 90 degree angle.

Cool, thanks! I can't really see in the photo, is there a 90 degree bend on the other side of that riser card? Is it rigid?

Edit: Nevermind finished the video, yes it is and this looks amazing. You could probably fully liquid cool this thing!

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 390 8GB PCS+ Video Card  ($314.98 @ Newegg)

Case: Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX Tower Case  ($34.99 @ Newegg)  <<I would build a handle into/onto the case

I'm pretty sure this combination is not going to work, the Powercolor 390 you listed is a 2.5 slot card and would need to sit through the side panel in the Elite 130.
