Hi there,

I have recently heard about something called 'Unreal Engine 4', and 'Unreal Engine 4 games'. I tried searching it up, but it didn't give me a clear explanation on what it is. Is it a software? I know that people can make games with it with better graphics, looks, etc. Also, how would I go about actually playing those games made by people? Do I have to download Unreal Engine 4 and then download the game? I have no clue whatsoever, so some light on the issue would be immensely appreciated.

Cheers!

Unreal Engine is a game engine, like any other Frostbite etc, it is the software that the game runs on (short explanation). You do not have to download Unreal Engine to play games that run on Unreal Engine as you do not have to download Frostbite to play Battlefield :) Unreal Engine 4 is simply the 4th version of the engine :)

To the best of my knowledge, a game engine is where a game is built on. It includes all the assets used in a neat package and makes them run properly (usually :P) when you play the game. You don't have to download anything other than the game to "use" it.

Other popular engines you might have heard of are Frostbite (Battlefield) and CryEngine (Crysis).

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

Its a tool used to build games, it creates a whole game, no need to download anything but the game itself.

A carpenter uses his tools to make a door, and then he sells you the door. A game developer uses UE4 (or Unity, its the most used) to make a game, and then sells you the game.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

Oh okay thank you, but I saw games made by fans themselves, how do I download those? In fact, how do I download any UE4 games?

Cheers!

There are too many, just download/buy games you want to play, if they are fan-made there should be a download link somewhere, but i cant personally pinpoint anywhere.

This wiki has some of them:

There should be download link at games website (if its free) or way to purchase. Like said, you are downloading game as package, not the engine they used to make game.
