Fractal Design Define S

Go to solution Solved by Prestonification,

Hi,

I am planning to move from my mATX CM Silencio 352 to an ATX Fractal Design Define S and I would like to know what you think of it?

Like if you have a better nice looking case for that approximate budget or else?

Thanks a lot  :D

I don't have experience with your current case, but I wen't from a Windowed R4 to a S and am not even slightly disappointed. So much room and airflow with the only compromise being the amount of mechanical drives you can install which is 3. i give it a 4.5/5 right now.

Define S, from my understanding is basically an R5 with a larger window and no drive bays and for easier watercooling. So, basically the case is fantastic.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

I absolutely won't miss the drives cages because I only use a 2Tb hdd with a 240Gb ssd  :)

I just ordered a define s after looking at some reviews online. I personally like the looks and big window with the roomy front chamber. I don't use HDD's in my system so the lack of drive cages doesn't bother me at all.

I've had mine for a month and am completely satisfied with it, not a single complaint I can make really.

However, on FR's website, this case is described as coming with two GP14 fans pre-installed, but mine arrived with two of their Silent Series R3 140mm fans instead. Doesn't really matter, just a bit odd :/

What do you think of the fans included? Are they good, quiet?

Your current case comes with Silencio fans? if so, do you like them? I would reuse those if they are good enough.

Yep. I have two old 120mms from my last case in the front alongside one of the 140mms supplied, keeps everything cool enough that they never even speed up. Only thing in my computer I can hear in moments of silence are the CPU fan (which I need to replace) and as I have the computer on the desk instead of on the floor (over-curious cats are a cute burden) I sometimes hear HDD noises. The feet aren't just plastic with a rubber strip on them either, they actually have about half an inch of soft rubber as part of the foot itself, so on a carpeted floor you'll probably never feel vibrations from it, and on wood it'll be a lot better than most cases at keeping vibrations to a minimum.

I think they're silencio, but I'm not sure cause I find them pretty loud, but the case is 50cm from me :P

Fractal includes good quiet fans with their cases, if you need more i would recomend getting fractal design, phanteks or NZXT case fans since they have similar aesthetics and are pretty quiet at a decent price.

I just wish it had a top dust filter, if it did I would buy the Define S in a second. Lots of cases in this price range have one flaw that detracts from them being perfect otherwise:

1. Fractal Define S with no top dust filter

2. Phanteks Enthoo Pro with unfiltered intakes on the side of the front

3. Corsair 450D with a flimsy looking latching mechanism for the front dust filter (in the HardwareCanucks review of the 750D this crappy mechanicsm broke)
