i am looking to buy gtx 980, but cannot determine if i should pay extra for non reference one. i am not overclocking it by myself, whatever it does in gpu boost is good enough for me.

I would suggest non refrence as they will to better in the long run and will let the card run cooler as well.

you want none reference. i made the mistake of going with a reference 980ti and ill NEVER do that again. horrible cooling performance, loud card, and just overall shittyness. if your really concerned about colors i think linus has a vid on how to paint your components you can look up.

cost is not the issue, i can go as high as 600$, but if i am not overclocking it then that extra money i spent will be wasted. cheapest is 500$ .

Non reference.

 

On a side note, for 560 you can get a fury

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.
