Exactly. According to the information you've provided, you didn't quantify it and you didn't notice a difference on your own.

Actually, I do notice a difference. The fact that I use dual channel now doesn't mean I've not used or seen single channel operation. It's a thing.

Also, you could go for a EVGA GS 650, also by Seasonic, with great efficiency, and a fully modular design, so you could get fully custom cables if you so wanted. (The most popular one cablemods hasn't done it yet, but probably will in the future.)

Just as I see it, if you are doing rigorous simulations, or parametrics, you might see gains, but in real world use, especially in games, you probably would see a maximum 1 frame a second of difference. Even in video editing, you won't see that much of a difference, maybe up to 3-4%?

Trust me, it's noticeable, Especially in editing and stuff you will notice a boost in the time it takes to render something. As for gaming, that's a different story, there you only see a big difference when you have an APU/iGPU.

A 4690K over a 4690 would be much better. Trust me, you have a top tier i5 and the extra money is worth it for the unlock.

Originally I considered the 4690K, but I will only be overclocking my GPU a little, maybe not even. I have no Custom cooling at the moment but that will be added  later on, and then I will start thinking of overclocking my CPU.

Hey man, it sounds like you aren't in the US, but try putting in these things, or very similar to pcpartpicker. I tried to capitalize on performance by going for a cheaper i5 (Similar performance), and a tier higher gpu with a great case (I own it and really like it), and a solid power supply.

Thanks for your effort, the problem is in South Africa the variety is not a big a in US for obvious reasons, and prices increase a lot. I agree with your system, though I am a bit biased over Radeon. I have friend who has a R9 270x and it was great at the beginning, but six months in, it is starting to overheat and tends to get slower quickly.

Thanks , means a lot.

The 4gb is about 100$ more where I live, its frustrating so its a no for that, but thank you.

OP, please consider the 380. You will be getting twice the usable  vram and you will also see more performance. the 380 was the 285 which was better than the 280 which is slightly better than the 960. Unless it's considerably more expensive, then the 380 is a better offer.

the 270X's TDP is different to that of the 380 and 390. They underwent an efficiency upgrade and you also have to factor in the cooler. If he OCed the chip that might be the cause or he simply got unlucky with a faulty card. That happens to both AMD and Nvidia.

EDIT: If the 270X is XFX then do no be surprised if the thing overheats, XFX coolers are not good enough atm.

I went and had a look at the 370 and the 380, the prices are quite high and I found at one or two shops, so its rare. thanks for your responses.

My friend probably just got unlucky, he hasn't overclocked it, going to tell him to take it back, assuming he still has his warranty.

Worth a try to RMA the card. As for the 370, it's generally slightly behind the 960 so it's not a better alternative but the 380 is above it. Try searching for other shops nearby if possible but if it's too expensive then get the 960.

Sorry if I'm being pushy but it's a similar thing here. Some shops will sell the 380 at a higher price but the ones I shop from have the 960 about 80 USD higher than the 380 and the 270 is about 100USD less.

Thanks for all your help, I will keep on searching. You are not being pushy haha. think I am gona stick to the 960 for now, but later on with a new pc see what I can do with newer tech.

That still is stupid. Giving good advice to people while you don't have your own stuff right.

The 4gb on the 960 is usefull you can see some improvement in fps in some titles, but for most people not that usefull in the difference in price.

More VRAM doesn't improve FPS unless the game you're playing has VERY high res textures or efficiently uses it as a sort of bin, which some do, but not at a massive FPS boost.
