Well to make a long story short I've decided I will purchase the new custom PC this year around the September/October timeframe. I am going to restrict my budget to AU$1,800, possibly even AU$1,700, because spending upwards of those amoounts is crazy. I realise the i7 would be better. I really have to choose between having an i7 CPU vs the i5 or an SSD. Because I realise SSDs give the best performance increase I'm going with the i5 and SSD option. Plus I don't believe Intel are going to change their amount of pins for the CPU socket as they already did that going from Ivy Bridge with 1155 pins to the current Haswell pins of 1150. So there's a good chance that I could purchase an i7 CPU later on.

Sorry for the long introduction to my answer but I guess you could say that I will be using the SSD as a scratch disk in a way but it will be my boot drive with the WD HDD as the storage drive.

If you're using it as a scratch disk for video editing, you'll need a bigger one.

Why not just go 8320/8350?

The SSD will be what I render my HD videos out to but then I'm going to move the files over to the HDD.

As far as the AMD CPU goes, they seem to run quite hot under load wheras Intel CPUs are quite substantialy cooler also I want a decent amount of USB 3.0 ports and from what I have seen AMD boards don't have much in the way of them.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

I don't think where you write to matters. The use of a scratchdisk is to make playback much easier on high quality content such as 4K.

Well I won't be editing 4K video only 1080P video. I usually transcode my videos in Handbrake (at a lower bitrate), then edit the transcoded videos in Sony Vegas Pro. The originals are left intact. I usually have to deinterlace them because their recorded in 1080i, however the latest verson of Handbrake now has BOB deinterlacing which makes my 1080i interlaced footage look like native 1080P footage, quite good really.

Okay you didn't need to know all that. I just wanted to give you some info on how I go about my editing.

Question ? Why did you not list the individual parts prices and here is my suggestion for your build
