Hey forum!

I need a new headset. But i dont know which, Right now i am stuck with a old Planatronics shit.

I have some "needs" for the headset.

I want it to have:

- 7.1 Sorround sound.

- Good gaming mic.

- full-earcups.

The price does not mean anything.

Logitech G430

But as I always recommend. Get a nice pair of headphones and a standalone mic. If you really want 7.1 you can set it up with Razer Surround

You will get much more out of a pair of good headphones. and an separate mic. The Mod Mic, has an attachment to clip onto any pair of headphones and has rather good quality voice recording. Although a snowball mic would be best.

You also don't need to fall for any of those 7.1 headset scams. You really don't need that many speakers in a headset, more speakers = smaller drivers which = poor audio quality. You can use Razer Surround for a great FREE virtual 7.1 and expanded 2.0

Here's some proof you really only need quality headphones, not some gimmicky feature set.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Bold words.

in that case, stax sr009 and a blue hawaii amp.

don't forget your mod mic.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Why do you want surround sound? It's useless in headsets, the speakers are so close to each other you pretty much wont be able to benefit from it. I can really only recommend Steelseries Siberia V2, it's super light weight and comfortable, the mic is good and the sound is decent (of course not anywhere near HD800's etc).

yes, but its a shame computers are not powerful enough to calculate for ingame sounds to be binaural holophonic

good point

Thanks guys. So you opened a new option!  If i buy a headset without a mic which should it thwn be?  and which standalone mic?

It would be nice if you would give me some links.

Do you have a dedicated soundcard?

Somebody mentioned the SteelSeries Siberia V2's. Those are a great option, if you don't have a dedicated soundcard.

I have the Asus Sabertooth GEN3 AM3+. Is the soundcard on that not good enough to a standalone mic and a 7.1 headset?

The problem with the onboard audio is that it is prone to interference and therefor produces muddy sound. Also it doesn't have amplification. I would recommend you to go with either a dedicated soundcard and a pair of analog headphones and mic or simply just get a USB headset

Allright. So what you say is that i should not buy a headset with the old jacksticks if i dont have a dedicated sound card. But what is the difference if i buy a USB headset, would it make the sound quality better?

A USB headset have the soundcard inline. This means that it is less prone to interference and is probaly of better quality than the onboard audio. Short answer: Yes, it will give you better sound to go with a USB headset than with a analog headset/headpone+mic.

Okay, I'd say a Modmic (This will sadly be around 70$ after danish customs), Some good 25£ Soundcard off amazon, and a pair of ATH-M50's or something like that. (Will cost a lot in total, but will last you long.)

If that's too much, I'd say go for a nice gaming headset. If you buy something over 80£ with normal jack inputs a Xonar DGX or the like would be a nice addition (27£ on amazon currently)

Stuff I have I like: Moto G - Superlux HD681 Evo - Monoprice 9927

90% of what I say is sarcasm.

If you want to go with a USB soundcard I recommend this. Still, if you plan on buying a USB soundcard you might aswell buy a internal PCI-e soundcard. The prices aren't that much different and the internal cards are much better.

A PCI-e soundcard has access to more power and can therefor amplifie the sound better. It also have a larger PCB to build components into, and thereby having more components to make the sound clearer. Forget all that 7.1 stuff. You only need two speakers when they are that close to your ear. You can easily set up a virtual 7.1 system using Razer Surround
