I was going to buy a 980ti and was wondering if waiting for Pascal is a better idea as there will huge leaps forward in technology eg 16nm and hbm2.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Depends on what you got, if you have a 700 series card i would wait simply because they are still very capable and if im gonna spend 6-700 bucks i would expect a big improvement

Assumed you had Nvidia for some reason but same idea if you got an R9 series card

Well Pascal brings 10X in performance. for me, I would wait, but thats because I have a 980. What is your current specs?

Same question as the lad here, i got msi 680 lightning, should  I wait? Pascal is very tempting...

If you can wait 1.5 years sure. Otherwise, every year something comes out that is new. If you always waited for something better you will be waiting forever.

Up to... Up to 10X... and that's just what they are hoping. Plus its only in terms of tflops which doesn't mean anything necessarily. The Fury X destroys the titan in tflops.

Oh my god congratulations, you are right. Keep in mind that the Titan X was launched before the fury X, and nvidia is always too stubborn to drop prices. Anyways, I know they aren't promising 10x, but even if they are speculating, 10x is a lot to speculate about.

Well, first, you are stepping up from a mid-high end to a VERY high end GPU, the question is, do you need more graphic power at the current moment? Is that card lagging for you? cause it's a pretty nice GPU overall and i think it should be able to serve you well at least until the next gen

Im just saying don't get your hopes up to much. If the architecture is that powerful it will still probably only equate to a efficiency boost. Why push a 300 dollar card with 10x the performance of the old 300 dollar card when you can put one out with only 2x the performance and only needing a pcie slot with no extra power cables. That way its a clear winner against AMD, you can make more gpu's out of the same piece of silicon and you still put out an improved card.

I will also be purchasing a 1440p screen. And as I live in the UK prices are mental and it just so happens my dad is going to the US thus allowing me to grab a card at realitive to UK prices really cheap.

I had 2 Cards of those (Called 7970 before, 280x now) .. running 3 monitors at 1440p each ..

Wasn't very in all games, but single monitor will do ..

I would recommend looking for a discount / special offer upgrade, otherwise, wait .. This upgrade to 980 Ti is not worth the full price yet ..

Pascal wont be 10x faster. Memory bandwidth can only go so far, as we saw with the fury cards. Yeah much faster memory but still slower than 980ti,

As we've seen with previous generation of new gpus, they are always around 10-30% faster and nvidia doesnt have a reason to release a card that completely reks everything else since they dont really have serious competition

Well, if you can sell your 280x at a good price and you are getting a 'discount' (i live in Chile, know what you mean...) it's gonna be a great upgrade, but more in a sense that you are going from high to enthutiast class GPU, not so much the generational aspect of it

I think I would probably go for an upgrade now. A 280x is kind of getting outdated and will struggle with modern titles on ultra settings at 1080p.

Whether or not you spring for a 980 ti depends on what resolution you'll game at. Its ridiculous overkill for 1080p. For 1440p and above it makes more sense.

I opted for a 980 because I got a gigabyte g1 for 400 new and couldn't justify spending another 250 for a 980 ti.

400 is a good deal for 980
