400 is a good deal for 980

I got lucky on ebay. Theres some 980s going for pretty cheap on there in the US these days, although 400 for a G1 was a steal. Probably due to  980 ti and 390/x release so demand has dropped for the 980.

Depends on what you got, if you have a 700 series card i would wait simply because they are still very capable and if im gonna spend 6-700 bucks i would expect a big improvement

Assumed you had Nvidia for some reason but same idea if you got an R9 series card

And what about a 770 2gb sli?

Could be a good idea now?just to wait pascal and not to be under powered...

Well Pascal won't launch in 2015, so if you can wait until mid 2016 or something, sure, wait for it.

There will always be something better coming soon and you could as well wait forever, it will still take some time for pascal to arrive so I would go for 980ti

My old overclocked 7970 MSI lightning compared to my new overclocked 980Ti MSI Gaming. The 280x is a rebranded 7970 with some tweaks.

As you can see, the graphics score has improved by almost 135%. I used to play Witcher 3 low/medium 60FPS 1080p now i play all ultra 60FPS 1440p.

I would, and have gone for the 980Ti now instead of waiting for the next generation to come around. The most modern games just felt unplayable and wasted on my 1440p monitor.

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum

I will also be purchasing a 1440p screen. And as I live in the UK prices are mental and it just so happens my dad is going to the US thus allowing me to grab a card at realitive to UK prices really cheap.

How you be doing that. Very interested.

Ah it's that time of the week again:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/409504-help-980ti-or-pascal/

I really hope they put Displayport 1.3 on those cards. That would be the only reason for me, to upgrade from a 980Ti to a Pascal card.
With Displayport 1.3 we can finally push 4K 120hz or 8K 60hz.

What I think Pascal will be:

GTX 1060 = 970 or 980 performance, 4GB HBM V2
GTX 1070 = Titan X performance, 8GB HBM V2
GTX 1080 = Heavily overclocked GTX 980Ti performance, 8GB HBM V2

No 1080Ti or new Titan card until 6-12 months after release of Pascal. The 1080Ti or new Titan will have 16GB of HBM V2.

So, unless you want to wait like until Computex 2017 for a 1080Ti, get a 980Ti now.

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.
