F@H on PS3

So I know Sony killed the Folding@home app in an update, but is there still a way to get it? Or was it run through there servers somehow?

For example, if I got the 1.6 update with the app, could I still not fold?

I have a PS3 that does nothing atm, and figured might as well, but not sure.

Is there a boot I could run to fold on it? Linux maybe?

That's another thing, I figured they would either have little or none going out anymore either, but I couldn't imagine they would cut all the PS3s they had running out of the question.

I don't have a PS3 but I know some people installed Linux on it. I would install Linux on the PS3 and install F@H for Linux.

3rd Gen.

Haven't looked into whether or not Linux will run on it.

I don't think PS3 has support for Folding@home anymore

Sony shut down Folding@home on PS3 a while back.

That's why you need CFW or to go to Linux on the PS3.  OFW versions will not work.  They're probably too high on the OFW list, so their only real chance is to flash the PS3 down in a tricky way with an E3 Flash kit.  That's their only chance.

I didn't know you could un-console peasant a console.

You know why it was taken down ? wasn't the PS3 cell processor like great at folding ?

Originally it existed as its own application, but eventually Sony made another application called Life With Playstation which integrated Folding@home into it. With the 4.30 firmware update, Sony removed Life With Playstation and subsequently Folding@home. As to why they made that decision, I'm not sure. Even Sony's own blog post doesn't reveal any motive to why they did it.
