The best era to do a retro build.

beach_boy98

For my summer project i want to build a retro gaming pc but i am unsure what era to do. I could go all the way back to pentium 3/4 or newer like the core 2 duo stuff?

Anyone have an opinion? The sensibility isn't really a question.

Thanks beach :)

I have a NES lying around that I plan on making into a mini ITX gaming PC. I also have an Atari 2600 that I was going to a G3258/750 Ti build in. It doesn't necessarily have to be a PC to be cool. I would also look for an old Commodore 64 or Apple II chassis.

Yeah, I would finish it but I just don't have time or extra funds. Maybe I will do a build log in the future.

@tmcclelland455 can help you. I would say Pentium III is the most used processor for games from N64/PS1 era downwards if that is what you are looking for. Also an ATI RAGE Fury is a great old card for gaming or most Nvidia FX cards.

Also watch this because it is amazing:

Well, 80s hardware and even some early 90s hardware is pretty hard to find in good condition.
