HI,

This is going to be my first custom build in a very long time. This build is going to be used for gaming at 1080p max settings only. Other than occasional movie i wont be doing anything else on this PC.

I am also planning to throw in another 970 in SLI in a few months. I want this build to last atleast 2yrs. Also i am on a bit of tight budget and i am open to any suggestions for more compatible combinations. :)

A SSD is a luxury not a must. Don't sacrifice raw performance for that couple seconds to boot up a game or what not. Plus you got a z97 board and a locked CPU. which you can't overclock and a after market cooler. You can always add a SSD later and backup your data, do a fresh install of windows on the SSD to make a boot drive and add a few of your favorite games to it ect ect..

Do you need 16 GB of ram? Save up in the ram and get a unlocked i5 4690k.

I would rather go for the following.
The SSD you chose is overpriced. An 850 Evo will give you the same if not better performance for far less money.
I did put an i5-4690k in there, just so you can actually use your Z97 motherboard correctly and overclock the hell out of your CPU ;)
Also the PSU is quite expensive. The EVGA Nova Nex will get the job done. It's also 80+ gold certified and fully modular.

Any particular reason for not an RM series??

Cheap capacitors inside... and they are overpriced for what they are... I have the RM850 and regret buying it from day one...

I even put it up for sale, nobody wants it

That's because no one wants used PSUs. Not because the RM series is bad ;)

Will it really make a big difference to games if we overclock the CPU?

Some gain but nothing huge, but since you are paying for a third party cooler and a overclocking motherboard why not?

So if i get the i5 - 4590, any recommendation for a compatible motherboard including SLI? And would this CPU support all games for the next 2 yrs??

It would even last 4 years with a decent overclock! The Z97-E motherboard can do 2 way SLI.
