Is it just me that thinks this whole thing is getting out of hand, not long and they will become a dictatorship for all we know!

As I already stated before; I think the government has more important things to worry about (and to put money into!) than something like this...

I think it will happen what Logan said in the latest Tek, and that is that the "blacklist" will obviously fail and they'll use that as an excuse to change it to a whitelist, and then they'll monetize it like if it was TV and you pay for the sites that you want (really hope I'm wrong).

The UK is going to end up like China.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Interesting...so basically web forums MAY be set to be blocked by default. I agree that it's just a stupid idea and is completely unnecessary, but i'm tired of seeing sensationalized headlines and 'slippery slope' arguments (https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/slippery-slope) from people about this whole thing.

☑ pornography

☑ violent material

☑ extremist and terrorist related content

☑ anorexia and eating disorder websites

☑ suicide related websites

☑ alcohol

☑ smoking

☑ web forums

☑ esoteric material

☑ web blocking circumvention tools

Anorexia and eating disorder websites?

Alcohol and smoking? Does that mean it will block stop smoking websites and such?

Mr. Cameron is a tit.

She did, I can't comment on her politics but all I can see is that I feel it was a complete waste of money.

I do agree that it was a bit excessive.

It will work exactly how the mobile phone internet filtering has worked for the past 10+ years, just like I said on the other thread it was only reported as a porn block because that is Sensationalist and will sell newspapers, if you're over 18 then all you have to do is get the filter removed, not exactly a big deal, the only people who can really complain are the under 18s who shouldn't be viewing any of it anyway.

Also if you think the government actually wants to waste it's time on this you are mistaken, this is being pushed through because of relentless campaigns from self righteous newspapers and the 'Please someone think of the children' people of the country.

However whereas SIM card filtering works very well, because every person has their own personal account, therefore a parent or over 18 year old can remove the filter from their own account and it will not affect any under 18s, whereas for home internet you get one account for the whole house, therefore if the parents want no filtering you end up at the exact same point you are in now, with no filter.

This is kinda ridiculous. I could understand 'blocking' porn and 'extreme content' but a) what is extreme content? And b) extreme content DOES NOT INCLUDE EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET.... Why does the government waste time and money on something that can be worked around by 6 year olds and will just make being in the UK even more of a hassle. I mean, seriously. How much time and money have the UK (and most of the rest of the world, for that matter) spent on attempting to block piracy website such as thepiratebay.org? Come on... I can list off 100 websites that can access it no problem within three seconds just by a quick google search.

Message to all politicians: stop wasting your time. Focus on putting the country back in the black and get jobs for everyone! Fuck off with your wasteful attempts at everything else and do some good for the country!

PS: I don't give a damn about politics, but I'm starting too with the crap that's happening lately with all the internet problems. The internet is a free place that is accessible globally and should bloody well stay that way! On that note, where's my ADSL2 at? I'm still stuck on ADSL!

My opinion? I am sick and tired of the phrase "protect the children". Seriously, fuck the children. I grew up without all these laws which censors things, I even grew up watching Tom and Jerry which still blows my mind that they showed such a violent show on Cartoon Network, and I turned out just fine, and so did most people who grew up at the same time I did.

Porn and other websites that might be blocked (such as websites with violent material) do not harm children. Bad education and mental illnesses harm children.

I have no idea which mobile phone filter you are talking about. We don't have anything like that in Sweden.

Anyway, if you don't see why censoring (even if it's opt-out) is bad then you haven't thought it through enough, or looked up the history of some similar situations (laws get passed to protect X or Y, but is then misused).

This is the most honest and accurate assessment there is. The only reason this is news is because of sensationalist headlines like "UK blocks porn". When i took out my mobile contract with 3, adult content like gambling sites and porn were automatically blocked. All it took was a 2 minute phone call in order to rectify this. Again, when I signed up for home broadband with TalkTalk, they offered my their HomeSafe package (which is where all of these 'predictive' blocks and speculation as to what will be blocked is coming from). The only person this will affect are under 18's ; but people forget it is illegal for them to be watching porn in the first place. I don't support the 'block' because it's stemmed from tabloid campaigns from the likes of the Daily Mail and people who basically don't understand the internet, but it's no where near as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

Web filtering via a blacklist is outdated. Newer solutions use a blacklist combined with a real-time assessment of the kinds of content on the page, to try to determine whether it is a certain category of domain. A webpage filled with lots of plugins and flash content etc is like an online games website etc.
