MSI 390 or 970

Hi. I'm looking to buy a new GPU within the $350 price range, and the two most appealing options are the MSI R9 390 and the MSI GTX 970. I do think the 290(x) is an option as well, however if I were going to go for the AMD side I would rather choose the "refresh". I am aiming to play GTA IV/V, Arma 2/3, Dirty Bomb, War Thunder, and some other games that range in quality and stress and such. I will be playing these games on 1080p, maybe until Christmas, then I'll try for 1440p. I think the 390 will help in that case. 

 

From graphs and charts on GTA V with both the 970 and 390, I have noticed quite a big difference. Some graphs show an average of 70FPS on 1080p, some 50, and some even up to 90. I am guessing it will be about 70, but does anyone have either of these cards, and if so, can you please tell me your experience.

 

I would appreciate recommendations and reasons why if possible, please. Thank you.

If you like Nvidia features go with the 970. 

If you like AMD features go with the 390. 

Performance wise, they are pretty much the same. And when overclocked they still gain the same amount of fps. 

 

I'd just pick the cheaper option.

I am personally buying a 970 because of cuda acceleration and shadowplay etc.

Also 4 out of 4 Youtubers who mainly does these things we saw same result at 1080p it win by 5% to 10% more or less!

The EVGA SSC comparison is a useless one at best. It is only overclocked around 1400 mhz in most reviews or just stock when a lot of reach 1550-1600mhz.

Most 970 cards can at LEAST reach 1500 mhz unless you get really unlucky! For the G1 it is a higher binned card so your chances are even higher for a better overclock! Thas why you don't go for EVGA unless you get a Classified or KINGPIN which are overpriced to say the least.

It's true. All of my friends' 970 can reach the 1500 mark, some even hitting 1600-1550, and they all have msi, asus, gigabyte, Palit and inno 3d
