Noise optimization

Go to solution Solved by Speakerator,

Okay I have tried to fiddle around with it a bit now, the fans for the motherboard is unplugged they made the most noise but now it is actually the pump noise that are the biggest problem, I tapped on it so that it only glows on one of the leds on the pump (out of 3) but its still quite noisy is there any solution for a noisy pump or do I have to replace it?

But thanks for the fast response guys thats awesome, even though its noctua love most of it xD I have been thinking about getting some, you are not helping me from not doing it atm :P

I fear you're stuck with that. AFAIK the pumps of an AIO aren't the highest quality and tend to be quiet loud. You could replace your fans with any fans with high air flow that are quite low spinning, Senzelian mentioned quite a few brands.

Hey LTT Forum

I have been stalking Linus and the rest of you for a while and now its time to stop, I have to be a part of it ;)

I been wanting for a while to make something about the noice level in my system but  havent gotten around to it but I have tried a few things now.

First up i tried in the bios to turn down the fans by using some of the different profiles in there on them, but i could not here any difference what so ever.

Then i tried using the program SpeedFan, same effect here, so now my question too you guys is how do I make it less noicy?

I am willing to go out and by new parts if need be but if i can fix it without it would ofcourse be a lot easier :) I have for example been thinking about buying Corsair Link but it seems expensive compared to what you get :/ I have been thinking about going with a full watercooling build too but that might be overkill since i only clock my cpu at 4,2 and i dont really expect to do much more than that. I mainly use my computer for gaming, watching show, surfing on the tubes and so forth nothing major.

I would like to add that I think I am going to upgrade my Graphics card next year so that I can go with a 4k monitor instead of the 1080 I am using atm, so if I have to change parts I might do it all at once :P

Here is the full spec list of my pc, just to be on the safe side:

Windows 7 x64

ASUS GTX670

be quiet! Shadow Wings PWM 120mm*2 these are on the radiator

Corsair Hydro Series H100

Intel Core i7 3770K

ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77, newest bios version/2104

Corsair DDR3 PC1600 16GB CL9 kit VENGEANCE

Corsair AX860

Corsair Carbide Series 500R with the 4 stock fans

Corsair Force Series 3 240GB SSD

WD Caviar Green 3 TB and 6TB

ASUS Xonar DX

I am looking forward for a good debate about this

Stay Cool!  B)

I think the 4 stock corsair fans are the problem.

But to make sure, try to unplug them and see if it makes any difference.

It could also be your harddrives or your GPU that is too loud.

I hate you.  <_<

It would help to first identify which parts are loud. Holding fans with your hands to stop them from spinning is a good way to tell.

Check your temperatures on CPU and GPU.  If anything seems higher than it should, or if it seems fans are spinning faster than they should, it might be time to replace the thermal grease with something like MX-4.

Also, the 4 case fans are probably not helping.  Standard case fans have what is called a sleeve bearing.  They tend to work fine for a year or two and then they start to get noisy.  Replace them with Noctua fans.  I recommend the NF-A14 PWM for case fans, as they are a good balance of air flow and pressure.

Exactly. I guess the stock fans aren't that bad regarding air flow. You can either get some lower-spinning fans (lets say 800rpm max, just as a number, maybe higher, see what's availlable) or get some low noise / ultra low noise adapters. The latter are basically resistors that make your fans spin slower.

Is it also a problem in idle or just under (gaming) load?

What is it with all the Noctua fans^^ You want to rob him blind?^^ (Fine, I have one myself but that's not the point  :P )

People are always recommending Noctuas because those are the only fans they know apart from the Corsair fans...

Cooler Master Silencios are also great.

be quiete fans are awesome.

Parvum System fans are pretty good.

Prolimatech has some nice low profile fans.

The Aero Cool Dead Silence are also not bad.

AlphaCool Susurros are pretty brutal when it comes to air pressure and airflow. But they are also a bit louder.

Hmm alright, what if I want to go all in what kind of watercooling system should I be looking at for a noob? :P

Sorry, can't help you with that. Maybe go with a Swifttec Kit or search the Watercoolings Sub-Forum for beginners guides
