Which high-end GPU would you say is the best option just now?

- At 4K + 1 auxiliary?

- With 3x1080P portrait + 1 auxiliary?

And with a budget of < £700?

Different question:

The AMD 7970 works flawlessly with audio over HDMI at 24 bit, 192KHz to my AVR. The 6970 works, but won't play sounds for the first second or so of that sound playing; the likes of Skype notifications don't play and you often miss the first 1-10 seconds of a Youtube video because something somewhere doesn't work right. How do Nvidia cards handle HDMI audio and would you be likely to encounter any similar issues?

980 ti or Fury X. Both are powerful enough for all listed setups. As for your 7970 question, I think that's a flaw solely on YOUR card. My Gt 440, and my Gtx 570 have sound perfectly fine over HDMI. I also briefly owned a HD 6750 and it's displayport AND HDMI both worked fine.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Well with the overwhelming 980Ti response, which of the following 980Tis will perform best and be quietest?

The Asus one is significantly more expensive, is it that much better?

I'd be likely to OC if I get one. I'll almost certainly see what difference I can make at least.

But not in being quiet. Rofl.

I rather have extra silent card then 20Mhz extra which result into 0.4 fps increase  :D

The Card is very quiet for its unmatched amount of power. And its way more than 20mhz.

Without OC its way slower and you only can bring it above 1550mhz with spezial cooling.

Everyone has their own preference for what ever company they like.

But if your in the market for a 980ti, i would consider EVGA's new 980ti veraint.

What's the argument for this one?

I selected the three above as they are available from the retailer I'd like to buy from.

The Zotac Amp! Extreme is unmatched when it comes to out of box performance.

But the Kingpin will probably be better binned and have higher capable clock speeds maybe not on the stock cooling solution but in general.

Like Kingpin said, you will get this card only higher than 1550mhz when you can cool it below 20° under load.

If you want extreme power out of the box, amp! extreme. If you want serious OC, wait what Galax HoF and Kingpin´s EVGA realy have to offer. But remember you will have to remove their cooler and attach better ones.

I'm not exactly qualified to answer that but seeing as I'm one of the only people in the thread I'll offer what I do know.

I'm not sure exactly which but there are certain lines of non-reference designs that are supposed to be better binned for overclocking purposes, like the Galax HOF, EVGA Kingpin, I'm not sure what the other ones are but I'm sure a little research into cards that say they are made for overclocking and then the reviews to see if they are really made for overclocking would suffice. But better binned is not better for everyone, like for the average consumer looking just to have a powerhouse card and keeping the cooler I'd say Amp! Extreme is a really good option right now.

I'd be keeping the stock cooler, that's why I'm after a non-reference design. But I don't mind ramping the temperature of the GPU pretty high. I'd like as much performance as I can get though, so a higher binned card that I can turn the max boost up on would be nice. There won't be any "extreme OCing", just what extra I can get from the card as is.

the MSI gaming and Gigabyte G1 are both ''premium'' cards, so they should both be binned chip...MSI and gigabyte both have lower end models to trow the ''not so good'' ones.

At the end of the day the difference between those cards is really minor and it still boils down to silicon lottery, i can tell you that the EVGA card has the worst cooling solution...that has been proved countless times, they are just plain cheaper cards...the MSI card is the quietest, and the gigabyte card is the coolest running, but it's all very minor we are talking 1 or 2c and 2 or 3 db max difference, so it's not something you'll notice anyways...at the end of the day: pick the one you think will look best in your system and call it a day ;)

Both of your answers are quite helpful. Now I'll just have to decide if I want a Gigabyte G1 Gaming or a Zotac Amp! Extreme. The reason for questioning the latter being that it's a 3-slot card. if I want to SLI those in the future or add in other PCIe cards, there's not going to be much space left.

One quick query about the 980 Ti:

If I have three screens in portrait 1080P as one screen (so a 3240x1920 desktop), can I have two extra displays? I'd most likely have the auxiliary displays duplicated so if that makes a difference. It's just that I see the Nvidia spec is 3+1 displays rather than AMD's 6 displays.
