Cooling Upgrade Question

Go to solution Solved by xxTigerShark,

Ok, well my air cooling order got messed up in amazons system so I am changing to doing a custom loop. Yay, anyways thanks guys/gals. Arc Mini R2 and tons of awesomeness soon enough. Build log maybe.

i love it

first of all you doubloon budget

What do you mean? This sentence does not make sense. Doubloon isn't a verb.

That will be a lot more expensive, running you from about 200 to way over 1000 bucks.

OK, go with something cheap, like an EKWB XT radiator to start with, an MCP655 pump, and maybe an EK-BAY bay reservoir. You can get a EKWB Supremacy or, if you want, a Supremacy LTX.

Basically what I was looking at but with out using the bay res and using a pump res combo.

My Rig: i5 3570k at 4.2 GHz 1.12 Volts, Hyper 212 Evo, Maximus V Gene, RM650, 840 Pro and Seagate Barracuda, 8 GB of Sniper Ram, and a GTX 770.

Would a NHD14 be close to the performance if I am ok with my current OC?

I have my 3570k at 4.6 ghz on the NH-D14. You could probably go a bit higher if you have a better chip.

I have a pretty decent chip. I just cant decide what the best approach to silence my computer. So many options and water cooling makes me feel like a newcomer again.

Well my NH-D14 is very quiet. The loudest part of my rig are the case fans. I only hear them if the room is completely silent.

Aren't custom loops similar?

They are very quiet but have more parts that can go wrong and start producing noise.

Fyi, you have to quote a post or else the person won't get a notification you replied to them.

Oh forgot, anyways would a custom loop be better if the computer is a never ending project?

It would still take ages to get a custom loop on a never ending budget

I am good at computer

I know, I have way to much time on my hands when not at school. The computer is my hobby so I can always spare time to do some work on it.

You can get a decent cooling loop set up for $250. This will get you a cooling loop to add to... I can't really link anything. But it's an alphacool neXXos loop with a ut45 360mm rad. Make sure you get the ddc one, because that's a good pump. Then upgrade that from there. That what I'm looking at doing

My plan is a UT30 and EK Blocks right now and since I have the V Gene I can get a mosfet block as well if I do that option, I am still highly tempted to go Air still.

I like your plan, but I still am in debate about air vs water. Planning on more EK stuff since I hear it is good.

EK stuff has a possibility of crushing after market capacitors on non-reference GPU's but apart from that, they're pretty good

Thankfully I plan on only using a CPU and Mosfet block if I do do that. Cards change to much.

So I am hoping some awesome person here might be able to tell me if air is king or if water is still the best when it comes to an all around quiet good option?

Edit: I have decided to go with the NHD14 as Noctua stuff is awesome and its one less thing to fail. Thank you all for your input.

It could be very, very quiet but runs the higher risk of pump noises.

The NH-D14 is great as it's basically guaranteed to be very quiet.

Which is what I mainly wanted, with a bit more performance and one less point of failure than water.
