Cooling Upgrade Question

Go to solution Solved by xxTigerShark,

Ok, well my air cooling order got messed up in amazons system so I am changing to doing a custom loop. Yay, anyways thanks guys/gals. Arc Mini R2 and tons of awesomeness soon enough. Build log maybe.

I have a tough decision to make and I was wondering if you guys could help. My current specs are:
i5 3570k 4.2
Maximus V Gene
Define Mini
Gtx 660
840 Pro
Barracuda 1 TB
CX750
212Evo

Now the upgrade question I have for you guys is, I have two options listed below to better the cooling of the computer, I can't decide between looks and performance and silence.

Option 1
NHD-14
3x NF-F12

Option 2
H100i
Corsair 350d Window
2x SP120
2x AF140
AF120

Both options are continuing my original upgrade plan which includes a new GPU like a 770 or 780. I nearly ordered option two and both options include a AX760i as my current one has to much coilwind.

Now Including!

Option 3:

Custom Loop

Edited by xxTigerShark

My Rig: i5 3570k at 4.2 GHz 1.12 Volts, Hyper 212 Evo, Maximus V Gene, RM650, 840 Pro and Seagate Barracuda, 8 GB of Sniper Ram, and a GTX 770.

Why not just have 4 SP120 fans and get the H100i. Or if you can get the H220.

Leave your cpu the way it is now and get a new GPU first. Then I'd probably get a H100i.

No matter what the GPU is getting an upgrade. My issue is I can't decide if its worth water cooling and upgrading the case to support it or air cooling and keeping my case. I want to be able to play games with out having to hear the computer next to me.

Option 1 is better. Noctua is known for their great and quiet cooling. I have the NH-D14 myself and it is nearly silent. I never hear it above anything else.

Option 2 introduces the possibility of pump noise problems/more points of failure.

But will a pump failure occur in 3 years?

Depends on your luck. I believe Corsair has a warranty of 5 years so you should be fine for that long.

I think option 2 is best since you have more overclocking headroom, if that's what you have planned, or if you have already.

Kudos!

My last question is, is the pump loud?

Possibly. H100i pump noise is not that rare. I would go for the Kraken x60 since it's quieter.

Yeah, but if you can fit 2x140mm fans, then it may work, Otherwise, i would not recommend it. I don't know, does the define mini have room for a 2x140 mm rad?

No, if water cooling the case is getting an upgrade. The define mini has no stock rad support above 1x 120.

Ok then if you are upgrading and you want the H110 so badly, get a case that will support a 2x140mm rad.

Usually, in most cases, bigger radiators=more heat dissipation, but don't go overboard

So, if I want silence water cooling is still fine?

It works. You just run the extra factor of the pump possibly generating more noise.

For a 350D get a H110 and some PWM 140mm Noctua's.

Other suggestion get a PWM 120mm airflow noctua fan for the rear. Flip it around, slap a filter on it and use it as an intake. I just speced a system for a friend like that and the parts just came so I can tell you how it works probably sometime next week.

as long as you have a good brand with a quality pump as well as good fans, you probably won't notice them running.
