Hello, and thanks for reading this already!

I'm about to treat myself to a new build! http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/JYKd23

  • Use (from most to least): gaming, programming, game development, photo editing, some visual effects / video editing.
(Gaming: CPU intensive (Starbound, Smite, Skyrim...) but also some GPU intensive (Just Cause 2, Shadow Of Mordor, maybe GTA V, and some other AAA)
  • Location: Belgium, but my neighbour countries tend to ship to here (Germany, France, Netherlands...)
  • Budget: I prefer to keep it as low as possible, but I this thing is supposed to last.
  • Side notes: silence is IMPORTANT (hence the Be Quiet! power supply, and the WD Green).
Power consumption does not matter too much, but also lower is preferred.
    I am Team Green :P
The LEPA fans are for the case, the Be Quiet! is for on the CPU cooler.
Looks matter. I'm an aesthetic freak.

What I need help with, if possible:

  • Alternative motherboard. SLI, Z97, lots of Sata ports and good USB ports are necessary. But I feel that this is overkill :P.
  • Better/cheaper alternatives (but silent, if they make noise)
  • Ideas to silence the f****** HDD :P.
  • A cheap WiFi expansion card (the case is made for transport, because it's going to be used for exactly that.)

Thanks in advance!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

I don't know much about builds, but isn't the Green WD supposed to be for archive storage? I heard it's not reliable regular usage.

I'm gonna try to get as much on my SSD as possible. I'm afraid of the WD Blue, since noise :P

WD Green is a slower drive compared to for example Blue or Red, typically meant for storage which doesn't need the speed (so it's fit for your music or videos, but not that much for OS or games)

But since OP has an SSD included.. I'll let it slide

Why is that motherboard so overpriced :o

Yep, it's all thought trough :P

But, for something like movies etc., it'll be fine too, right?

For movies it's fine.

And as for the motherboard;

You can just go for a cheaper Z97 too and get a bigger SSD or something..

Your build is missing some pricing. So idk what you actual budget is.

But, you are wasting about 200 on the motherboard.

You want it to be quiet, which I get, but you are spending more on an air cooler than a AIO cooler which is pretty quiet after you replace the stock fans.

I don't really have a budget, but I don't want it to become too much. I could spend 3K, but that would be over the top for my purposes. And I need food etc. :P

Indeed, the motherboard was too expensive. I'm searching for an alternative, but didn't find one yet (aesthetic - performance balance is hard :P)

AIO coolers can be really quiet, yes. But I have 2 problems with them.

1: I don't have a silent case. The mechanical movements are too loud, in comparison (just like harddrives).

2: Transport. This thing will be moved in the car etc. I don' trust AIO when it comes to safety :P

If you want Silence, don't you want a silent case? That would work for you.

Seems legit, but transport is just as important. The CM Storm Trooper's handle is unmissable.

Ah, ok.

Well here are the changes I recommend.

got you a different cooler, it looks nice, and comes with a black and red fan. It's also much cheaper than your original choice.

Changed the motherboard to a Red and Black MSI z97 board that should match your build colors well.

Got you the Kingston Savage RAM, the 1600mhz version, its a little cheaper, which is worth it. cause really... you wont notice the difference between 1600 and 1866 at all.

Samsung 850 Pro SSD, you said you have the money, so you might as well get the best here. We saved money on other stuff, so this evens that out.

The rest can be kept the same, seems you already picked out the case you like, and other things, so I didn't recommend anything else.
