From what I have read, the first version of Shadowplay will only be able to record game and maybe even windows audio. Although this may be a slight problem for those of you who do commentaries. This problem is easily solved with audio recording software like Audacity. I really can't wait for NVidia to release the "full blown" version allowing us to stream to Twitch directly from from the app natively or otherwise and record audio a little bit like Fraps does. Even without these features though, I would say ShadowPlay beats out Fraps many times over!

www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2013/05/23/nvidias-shadowplay-brings-effortless-gameplay-recording-to-the-pc-masses/

Edit: Apparently ShadowPlay will be released on 31st July along with Shield (fingers crossed). Also, ShadowPlay appears to have multiple limitations as far as the release version goes. Max recording resolution of 1920x1080 at 30fps and does not work with SLI. I hope they do away with these limitations soon. My face will be like the guy in the picture if they don't =|

Meanwhile, drop Fraps for the way better Dxtory.

I honestly find Fraps less finicky than DXTory and easier to setup. Plus it gets the job done so might as well

Fraps is way buggier (and harder to use for streaming IMHO) than Dxtory, let alone the quality / CPU usage of Fraps.

True and I agree with you on that. However, DXTory takes more time to set up and there have been a fair few amount of times where I hit record and nothing happens even though I have done everything correctly. One of the reasons I'm excited for ShadowPlay. I'll be getting the AverMedia Portable just to record Tales of Xillia footage on the PS3 but that's about it since consoles will have software to record gameplay soon (Xbone/PS4)

What is with the delay for this thing? It was supposed to be released late June and now we're nearing August with no news... Hopefully they didn't run into a major snag, but it's looking like that just may be the case. Regardless, I will be looking forward to the release.

Oh NVidia... EA (Y)

I have been waiting a very long time already for the Asus Maximus vi Formula and every time they ask JJ for a released date he just says "Soon". I think Companies just like to torture their customers. :) Atleast JJ finally said the other day that the Formula will be released on the first week of August. ^_^

Max recording resolution of 1920x1080 at 30fps

Dealbreaker! I don't mind the 30fps cap for 99% of recording, but I DO NOT record footage in peasant's 16:9 aspect! 16:10 or gtfo Nvidia! My triggerfinger on the 'buy' button on a 780 just got a lot more relaxed, and it will stay that way until Shadowplay has 2560x1600 and 1920x1200 support.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Could you say that Nvidia GPU's and the Nvidia ecosystem is more refined than AMD. What I mean is that Nvidia has a bunch of really good features and technologies (eg. TXAA, Shadowplay, PhysX and a few others). Their GPU's are more expensive however you do get some extras such as those free technologies. Where AMD only really has TressFX as far as I know which is only used in one game (Tomb Raider). However I do say this but it would be really cool is AMD came out with a PhysX and Shadowplay equivalent.

I do quite a fair amount of video recording editing blah balh blah....one reason im changing my overheating 7950 to a 760 is the freaking shadowplay. I dont se any problem with the 1080p 30fps limit....youtube is just downscaling after that.....what i dont like is that it might not work with sli...which is dumb...they dont have to use both cards for the shadowplay operation. Just use the card that has less gpu usage...usually the lower card i think...Also if amd were to bring technology like physx or shadowplay then nvidia would pee themselves....

If everything were that easy ShadowPlay would be out by now. And don't forget you can only record game (maybe windows sounds idk) with the release version. And YT supports 1440p and 4k now if I'm not wrong

it may support 4k/1440p but the vast mojority of people probably have 1080p screens especially with them being so cheap now. Also having it record at 60 then uploading to youtube which converts it to somehwere around 25 i think, not quite sure, means your giving the gpu more work then it needs....its like me wanting only 1 cookie, i ask you to get it.....but you carry 17 boxes of cookies to make sure i have atleast 1 cookie...you couldve easily just got the 1 cookie much faster

You would expect nvidia to release updates for shadowplay fairly regularly anyway... imagine how much of a PR nightmare it would be if EVERYONE saw it crash every game. Im happy to wait till its ready. Im getting 2x 780's in my new build (sometime this week hopefully).. but i dont expect much from the initial version. Down the track it may support higher resolution capture or higher fps capture, but with higher performance impact? Who knows? Its all speculation until we get our grubby hands on it!

-Anubikai Well future proofing something won't do anyone harm. It's a possibly great and revolutionary FREE app for NVidia GeForce Kepler users so we can't really complain. As long as I get to record MechWarrior Online at 1080p with my game, TS3 and my own audio all on sync, I will be happy =)

yeah, nothings perfect on first release.....unless it has had a crap ton of testing done on many many different hardware configurations. I think shadowplay could be a deciding factor in purchasing gpus if nvidia get it all sorted =) a 760 vs 7950...the 7950 gets 8-10 more fps in games but when using fraps, recording software you loose like 10-15....shadowplay apprently will only loose you like 2 or 3......you always have the option of forking out a couple of hundred dollars on a good capture card but why not spend that money on a 770 or even 780 if you cna really stretch your budget....

Well said good sir. I would be planning on getting a 7950 since their dirt cheap if NVidia didn't announce ShadowPlay. And the GF Exp isn't half bad either. Although its kind of inaccurate at times, saying that playing MechWarrior Online on a GT730m is better on 1024x768 than 1280x720 when it makes no difference as far as I noticed
