is 4K worth getting yet? or should i get the 1440p instead?

im getting a GTX 980ti OC and i7-4790k 4.40GHz soon that means im able to play games at 4K but is it worth it? does it really look that different? or should i stick with the 1440p instead?

 

what fps do you think il get with a GTX 980ti and i7-4790k? on 4K and 1440p?

 

lets say i was playing GTA 5 and every setting was set at MAX! what diffent in FPS will i get with 4K and 1440p?

You should go with 1440p since it's easier to run and you don't have to go through the troubles of scaling.

4K is significantly more difficult to run than 1440p.

well what about 1440p?

A single 980ti/Titan X can easily drive 1440p. In my opinion, Maxwell is the first generation where a single gpu card solution can easily drive resolutions higher than 1080p.

Jay 980 TI beats his titan x when overclocked to 1400mhz..

he can get a completely playable console game play at 30fps capped.. also OP you can set your resolution to whatever resolution you want 1080 or 1440 whenever you don't like 4k.. Again 4k is so crisp you won't need any anti aliasing AT ALL and playing games at high and very high instead of ultra will give you 50-60+ fps depending in which game you play

If they're both overclocked to 1400 then a 980ti will not beat a Titan X.

Exactly my point and he was getting 50-60fps.. but with everything maxed out he can play at 30fps no problem with vsync on

Once Pascal comes out then yes 4K will be easy with HBM2 with speeds faster then 1TB/s on the Vram

4k is totally 100% worth it! i have a 4k monitor and a 980ti and its  perfect match.

 

yes you can't run gta v at 4k all ultra settings and maintain a 60fps limit, if you just leave advanced graphics off and dont use AA. still looks a crap ton better than 1440p.

 

my 980ti gets 75fps on bf hardline all ultra settings, 65fps on killing floor 2 all ultra settings again both games with no AA.

 

the bench marks you see online of titans struggling at 4k are done with settings including loads of AA.. you dont need AA at 4k, and you can lower post processing, non have any visual impact but boost performance.

 

listen to me who has a 4k monitor and a 980ti, not someone who has neither ;) think I've got the most accurate opinion here!!!

4K is awesome and is totally doable with a 980 Ti. It's simply not been true that it's impossible to run for over a generation now -- 290/290X CF has been perfectly capable since Hawaii was released.

 

1440p was good in 2011, and it's still a necessity if you want faster than 60hz refresh rate, but other than that it's obsolete now 4K is affordable.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to run most last gen games at 4k, like bioshock and bioshock 2, mass effect or dead space. But with newer titles you will have to stick to 1440p to get smooth 60fps experience in modern titles.

I'm on 1440p and I'm debating getting 4k but I think it's def worth getting. OC that 980 TI and you'll get at least 30 FPS on GTA V at FULL MAX SETTINGS and def 60 FPS if you turn off the advanced options and maybe change a few things from ultra->high.

4k is doable but you don't max the settings out.
